you just have to train your dog to leave the bird alone, my dog is about 40lbs and chases the wild birds outside whenever he gets the chance but he knows to leave my little green cheek conure alone and even if she is walking around on the floor he doesn't bother her (and a macaw has a MUCH larger beak than a little conure lol)

In my opinion this is still a very risky move. animals will be animals and they will act on instincts. If you do decide to have them out together make sure you have them under a very watchful eye. All it takes is one small puncture of the skin and your bird can be in big trouble since the saliva of mammals is very dangerous to birds since there is so much bacteria in their mouth. And with larger birds you have to keep in mind the safety of the dog their beaks can do some serious damage(I am speaking from experience) So just keep this all in mind when you decide to keep them in the same room together.

i totally agree with this, i didnt mean for the person to just throw the dog together with the bird and see what happens but to take time and train and watch as of course there are risks, iv worked with my dog since he was a young puppy to be together with my bird and make her dominant to him so that when he sees her on the ground or flying from her cage he goes in the opposite direction (once when she flew from her playstand when he was a puppy he jerked his head up like he was interested in the movement and i quickly corrected the minute gesture and he hasnt even showed the slightest predator interest since) , of course i wouldnt leave her roaming on the floor when im not there or anything like that but her cage is never closed and iv gotten my dog to the point where i can trust him completely with her (but like i said i have worked with him on this since he was a tiny puppy and my conure was there first, so its def a different situation if you are introducing a bird to an already grown dog that hasn't been around them and it greatly depends on the dog)
