Passenger Dragged Off Of U.S. Airlines Flight!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Legal or not it was very lame how it was handled. That being said to try and conflate racial prejudice and discrimination against individuals of Asian descent is quite a stretch unless the other three people that got bumped were also of similar ethnic background

If you are referring to my comments, please note that I was just responding to a question. Racial prejudice is alive and thriving in asian minority groups. Calling any asian a wrong nationality, is just not a nice thing to do and should be avoided. Dr. Dao was also referred to as a "chinaman" in this thread. The word is considered a derogatory term.

From Wickipedia: The term Chinaman is described as being offensive in most modern dictionaries and studies of usage.[23] It is not, however, as offensive as chink.[24] The New Fowler's Modern English Usage considers Chinaman to have a "derogatory edge",[25] The Cambridge Guide to English Usage describes it as having "derogatory overtones",[24] and Philip Herbst's reference work The Color of Words notes that it may be "taken as patronizing".[26]

Getting national origin wrong is a sore point for people of asian descent.
I can understand that;not too long ago a coworker mentioned to me that a guy got upset with her because she called him Chinese when in fact he was Cambodian. She didn't know any better but she was wrong to assume the guy's ethnicity and I suggested to her for future rederence to use the word Asian, rather than making something up if she is not certain of such a person's country of origin.

Man all the Cambodians I know are fairly dark skinned lol, I don't think I'd ever assume them to be Chinese lol, but in all seriousness people really don't stop and think of what calling someone the wrong nationality can lead to. It doesn't seem like a big deal but as pacumom has already stated there are definitely issues caused at times.

Good advice you gave her.

We actually talked about this in class today, though I didn't mention memes though as not to come across as a weirdo

Sorry, Skalper666 It sounds like you are the one being the dick
Thanks. Taken out of context, yes, it would appear that way. My first statement u bolded in red was about ending up in a situation where u are being thrown off a plane in a different country than u are raised in. The second was about how I do not think it would be risky to be in china, the country in general. And then I asked how so?.. as for the dick comment I apologize. Just got burned before several times by him for no reason. It was preemptive.

They did a random pick.... yes it really was so some employees could fly(heard they weren't from United though).

Wow more than anything it seems like a horrible business decision to kick out a paying customer for an employee.

And on so many levels. As the public, we should not have known the seat was for an employee. Actually on news I saw, they said they were not United employees.
