I'm just glad I read far enough into the thread before making a comment that it was probably a woman driver...

RIP to both fellas. A real tragedy. Now, the real discussion:

Seat belts are mandatory. Health insurance is mandatory. Safety standards are mandatory. Insurance is mandatory. Road maximum speed travel is regulated. There are places dedicated to vehicles moving beyond the safe speed. With all this in place, why are vehicle manufacturers still able to produce cars that travel in excess of the maximum posted speed limit in North America? Sure, people will still die, but if you regulate the capabilities of the vehicle, you lessen the chances of these accidents. Will accidents still occur? Yes. But it's a step in the right direction. A GT is capable of what... 0-60 in 3ish seconds? Exiting a turn on the throttle with that much HP is asking for it. I'm a car guy myself. Owned several FD3S RX7s over 400hp and very capable of dangerous speed. I'm lucky I never turned them loose on the interstate... And to think this occurred at like 4PM and no-one else was hurt..

I heard he has a 15 year old daughter that was with him at the charity event, she was waiting on him to return during the crash. Very sad.

Yeah that's horrible...The fastest car I've been in was a co worker's 350Z and he used to really open it up late at night after work so I can only imagine how that GT was moving.

That's actually the very first thing I said out loud when reading this news. "Paul Walker, dead at 40." I was thinking 40!??

hahaha, i feel so much better now.

about his daughter, i read that the "party" or charity event they were at heard the accident too. can you imagine what she's thinking as they hear the commotion?

I was watching a video on one of the cnn articles about him and Walker was on a ride-along in a tricked-out GTR and the driver asked him if he'd ever been above 200mph.

Walker's response?

"Yeah I've been about 184 or 186mph... On the freeway." Scary. I wonder if they'll be able to determine how fast they were travelling when the accident occured.
