I just picked up a 3'' pbass this weekend and i dont have any feeders that i trust. He has been eating frozen blood worms however reluctant hes still eating them. I have tried fd krill and he just spits them out and not interested in market shrimp or frozen tubifex worms. My question is how often should i feed him the blood worms and does anyone think brine shrimp would be something to try? Also should i get him on feeders after i qt them or just stick with what im doing. I have been doing alot of reading but Im new to pbass and really what him to survive great fish:headbang2

if you really dont want to see him go skinny, just give him the feeders now.
if the temp is high,30 degrees celcius or higher, there shouldnt be any problems with disease and such.
if youre like me,and refuse to feed feeders, you can just starve a little and try shrimp.
a teacher fish works great when getting cichla to eat different foods.

The temp is at 86 deg with salt. Ill probably break down and give him feeders just a little paranoid about disease because i lost a 2'' pbass awhile back to feeders. There are 2 2'' tiger barbs in the tank with him that eats everything including the krill and the shrimp and he doesn't care.

for teacher fish, its best to go with fish that will eat the food like a pbass.
meaning they tend to eat the food whole and the food size is pretty big.
either way,if you are paranoid about feeders, just keep up with the blood worms and quarantine some feeders while youre at it.

frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp are what i raise my peacock bass on, i have never intentionally fed them live fish.

when they are tiny i thaw the bloodworms and brineshrimp in tank water and then drop it infront of the filter outlet or infront of the powerhead outlet so it moves across the tank like it's alive. the babies go for it every time.. i've NEVER had a problem getting baby peacock bass to eat. though i hear that the little Kelberi folks are getting have some issues.. but i don't know what they are trying to get them to eat.

i've always had luck with shrimp.
my 1 inch temensis ate shrimp from day one just by watching the gars eat shrimp.

teacher fish for sure!!! and more pbass!!!

Ya i was thinking about picking up another one. How often did you feed them the worms and shrimp? Right now im feeding one cube of the frozen worms a day i know he needs more but how often?

I feed mine up to 3 small to medium sized meals a day untill they hit about 4-5" then I cut it down to 2 a day. If youre trying to get them big fast, continue the 3 feeds a day. Just try to avoid getting them to bulging if youre gonna feed that often. But 3" and under I would feed as much variety as often as you can to get them strong and their immune systems healthy. At 87 degrees even if they do get a bad feeder the infection shouldnt last long enough to kill them.
