Just got a 180 and I'm in the process of picking out some stock. Just wondering if any pbass would fit. Looked through the stickies but didn't really see anything about tank requirements. Thanks

Depends on how many pbass you plan on stocking in the 180. Two will be fine but anymore will require a larger tank. A 2" pbass will grow to more than 12" in a year, they slow down in size after that butncan grow up to two feet in a few years.

Ok thanks. I'm still throwing around stocking ideas. I plan on keeping a black aro. Realistically, I'm looking to upgrade to a 8x3 tank in the next 1.5-3 yrs. So I'm not opposed to keeping stock that will outgrow the 180, but I would like the stock to fit that footprint for about 2 yrs or so.

I haven't found 1 thread or site that has a profile for each sp. in one location. Your best bet is just google Monoculus, then Ocellaris, then Temensis, etc. I believe Intermedias grow the smallest (good luck finding them), and of course Tems being the mega monsters! But there is also growth rate to consider. For instance...IMO... Monos grow faster than Orinos, but Orinos get a bit larger. So....start googlin!

You do realize there are more than one species of pbass and they can vary from 16 to 36+ inches depending on species, right?

^^^^Thanks, I really never did research on them because of lack of tank size. I just need a place to start. THanks alot guys.

Well the only real advice I can give (since I have no experience with peacock bass) is to not follow callen's advice. Google is definitely not a good place to look for info on any fish (particularly fish over 12"). There are far too many sites like the one in this link: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=16+1911+1956&aid=2556 that will tell you idiotic things like Cichla ocellaris having a minimum tank size of 70 gallons. I would just wait until someone who has experience with them finds this thread.

I have to agree about google. I've tried searching for peacock bass and got about a million different results.
