Someone w/ some experience FOUND this thread. Google is a search engine, A WAY TO FIND INFORMATION on the net! Of course everything you find on the internet is not gonna be true....that's why they call it RESEARCH! You have to use COMMON SENSE as well. If a website tells you a fish gets 36" long, and will be fine in a 70 gallon tank, then obviously it's BS, if you take that info as true then your a fn idiot. You know how i found MFK?....Google...Aquamojo.com....Google.....TUIC....Google! My point is...Google is a TOOL, you have to look at MANY different sites to gather enough information, to make an EDUCATED decision on what's real, and whats not!

And I<3fish is right, your tank is too small for full grown Cichla...your better off gettin a tiretrack eel or somethin:D

Completely agree that google is a tool, there is unlimited means to find information and one of the formats are forums. Couldn't put it any better then you. Everybody thinks they're expert aquarists on this board because they read somewhere that you can do this and that.

To the OP, take what you get here and elsewhere and make a decision that best fits your needs and wants. Also, if you are going to take advice on pbass, don't take it from anyone that hasn't kept pbass.

Yes someone with experience did find this thread, but unfortunately that person (you) was unable to give any usefull info. Google is a complete waste of time. Why sort through all the BS google gives you for hours not knowing for sure which info is correct and which is false when you could use MFK which is designed to help people who are in the same situation?

If the OP wanted to use google to solve all their problems, then do you honestly think they would have even bothered posting here in the first place? :screwy:
Well, the problem w/ forums, including this one...is people like yourself who have ZERO experience keeping Cichla, like to chime in, and give FALSE information to guys lookin for answers.....so which sp. of Cichla grows to 16"??????????..........bet your googling it right now! :grinno:

I'm not gonna argue w/ you bro....but how'd you find THIS site? A search engine??????
Yes, but fyi I was using google images to look at pics of different aquarium sizes to get an idea of what size I should get (this was before I got my 225). The last time I used info off google for fish keeping advice, I ended up with a pacu in a 225 gallon tank, so I will not be using it again, and I would definitely recommend that others don't either.

Which is why I said THE ONLY REAL ADVICE I CAN GIVE IS TO AVOID USING GOOGLE. I never claimed that everything I said would be 100% accurate and even made it clear that I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH PEACOCK BASS. The thing about the 16" peacock bass was b/c I've heard that kelberis sometimes max out at 16", but again, I have no experience with these fish, so you can't expect me to know everything about them.

Haha, thanks! I figured I'd just ask on here because there are soo many different answers on google and wrong info. What I find on mfk is you mainly have people that take this hobby to the extreme, which is not a bad thing, but sometimes people are arrogant and straight out overkill anything. Personally, if I bought 5 pbass today (regardless of species) and it took them 2 years to grow out, I would put money on it that they wouldn't make the 2 yrs because I grow bored of fish pretty quickly. Regardless, unless youre taking the amazon and putting it in your back yard, none of you are giving the fish optimum living standards.

Your little comment about the tiretrack eel is just stupid. Keep living vicariously through your computer and fish! I swear some of you people just make me laugh. I like fish and I like to take care of my fish and that's why I asked. Thanks to jerks like you, I get no real info!

My bad, thought you were directing that to me for my lack of knowledge. All I really wanted to know was the tanksize for about 2 pbass. Now the whole thread just turned into a petty mess. My bad again.

So why make the thread to begin with? If you don't want to hear answers from people who like to provide a good home to their fish (arrogant jerks who overdo everything according to you), why not just buy the fish and don't even ask for people's opinion to begin with?

Nice thread, guys. I'm being sarcastic, of course.

To the OP, you can grow out a pair of pbass in a 180 but once they hit the 12" range, you'll find the 180 to be too small for then to thrive. They swim fast and hard and like lots of space. Now if you decide you want to sell them at that size, that's cool so long as you do a good job growing them out and you're prepared to let them go cheap. There are not a lot of guys around who will have space for 12+ pbass.

The other thing I want you to consider is how much they eat and as a result, how much tank maintenance is required. Pbass are fast growing big-stomach predators with huge appetites. If you don't have max filtration and aren't prepared to spend the money on food, they will be stunted, develop pits all over their heads and look awful.

I'm not sure pbass is the best pick for you.

Their turds are big too. My syphon that connects to the faucet has trouble removing my 8" pbass poop. I usually end up netting out the larger pieces that the syphon doesn't get.

I have 8 pbass and spend about $40 a week on feeders, pellets, shrimp and so forth.
