PC question

I have an i5 in mine and love it. Only reason to get an i7 over an i5 is hyper threading which I don't need. AMD is cheaper but I prefer Intel though.

This is exactly what is in my computer. Paid $671.34 with shipping. Prices change constantly change on newegg and keep in mind unless you are playing games you don't really need to buy a video card.

Also got a few free card readers and sd cards with the order.

Mine is powerful enough to run Netflix/movie on one screen and play high end games on the other screen without a dip in performance. Watching Scrubs right now on one screen and playing Assassin's Creed Brotherhood on the other, yes I run two monitors :D

I love that case! I used it for the one build, and I kind of regret not returning the included case on the other one in order to get that one.

I had picked that case in the fall when I first toyed with the DIY idea, sounds like I should change it back and save $15 which puts me at $590 pre-software if I reuse my current power supply.

i just upgraded a mobo, processor, and ram from my local micro center for $110. dual core 1.8 GHz with 8GB ( all sata 2.0 built in network, sound, vid, etc... ). i got home to find my old p/s only had the 20 pin connector so throw on the $15 dollar p/s and i was up and running for $125. i bought an nvidia 8800 512 gtx for $34 on ebay. this machine is plenty fast enough for games and i only had to reuse my crappy case. unless your really gaming hard i think $600 is way more than you need to spend. whatever you decide do the DIY for sure.

I would grab a new one, I recommend the one I got. How are you at $590, I don't see a video card on that list I don't see it being that much. Post links to what your looking at.

I'm a little paranoid about going small and having to upgrade sooner, don't know if there is logic behind my mindset but for some reason I have that notion etched in my brain. When you did your upgrade did you have to repurchase windows and office?

Its better to put a little more into it and not have to upgrade for a long time rather than upgrading again in a year or so. Pretty sure you can revoke your keys with windows products so you can reuse them.

Retail versions of windows and office are portable, oem versions are not according to Microsoft answers but you may have to call Microsoft to get everything squared away. If i have retail versions i may be placing and order this week, $400 in software was my hang up.

I also recommend my motherboard if your getting an iCore http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813121506 Its the same as the one you picked but $30 cheaper.

Save another $30 with my i5, you won't notice the speed difference with what you would be using it for as. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115074 Both are a significant upgrade to what you have now but you probably won't notice the dif speed between the two unless you are doing very high end task.
