If you get a butikoferi , get 1 and only 1. You can easily max it out in the 75. They are very smart and they are very personable towards their owner. Its like having a puppy dog in a fish tank. Just don't put anything else in there or there will be an execution of that new tankmate. Even plecos will get ripped to hell.

If you want the nastiest SOB of a cichlid then get him. If you want shoal action avoid him because your guaranteed to have your shoal wiped out.

cool thanks alot for your help...now my search shall begin, by chance you don't know any sites that might carry him do you?

sounds like a killer tank, I plan on having this tank for a few years....I'm interested in having a maxed out shoal with some aggressive actions in the tank.....I guess having Peacock Bass are out of the question right now lol I do plan on getting a bigger tank, but I don't wanna get them & something happens when there a big size & I may not be able to afford a bigger tank. Can anybody recommend any aggressive species that I can get a shoal of & max out in a 75?? PLEASE don't say RBP's...I had 3 & hated it lol

Id go with a big school of exodons better than african cichlids IMHO

yeah somebody on here recommended about 50 exodons, I'm kinda stuck in the middle between a shoal or a loner but very aggressive...IMO I would rather get a aggressive shoal in at least at 100+ gallon tank..more space, more fish = more terror IMO

I think sharkaquarium has them. I could have sworn I saw a tank full of 2 inchers the other day.

Call the store in Hillside NJ. The phone # should be on the internet.

Good luck if you get a butikoferi...Don't make the same mistake I did years ago.

that 2nd one also says you can keep one in a 30 gallon.
i think they (butti's) get a overly bad rep or they're just kept in way too small of tanks.
At the store they run and hide when your at the glass. My big one gets picked on by convicts.
Mine will watch me play video games and watch tv from about 8 feet away. Kind of weird really

@CClump lol sounds like your fish likes video games lol

I saw exodons at sharkaquarium. They are cool looking but they all look the same to me. Mbunas are very colorful and vary in appearance. their cichlids with good old cichlid personalities.

How big is your butikoferi ?

They do hide and act timid when small but as they grow so do their attitudes.

Its only a matter of time...All your convicts will get wiped out by the butikoferi. One day out of nowhere it will go on a murderous rampage. Thats how they operate.

It lives up to the rep. I never believed it either until my tank was murdered.

Are there different breed of the Buttikoferis?? Because I'm looking here http://www.****************/catalog_pages/cichlids_african/african_cichlids_table.htm#other & I don't see any that match the photos like the ones in the info links you provided

There is only 1 tilapia butikoferi. Just like with cichla ocellaris individual fish can vary in appearance depending where they come from.

There is a pet store in somerset nj called pets pets pets on JFK Blvd. that gets butikoferi often. They look like dead ringers for what you saw in the photos. The butikoferi are approx. 2 inches but have the dark black body with the yellow stripes.

The owner is a real cool guy so maybe he can order what you want.
