Peacock Bass Spawning

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Your going to need atleast 10 grams of baby brine a DAY! Thats the biggest spawn I ever saw....and I had a couple around a thousand.

X2 - I'd agree, and why I called his male a stud..hahahaha

this is defiantly one of the biggest successful hatches I've seen as well. Your going to be the new Mono supplier for Australia in no time if these two keep it up... hahaha

haha monster.... stud. I actually hope they quiten down a bit and have a bit of a rest. Too many for me. If the fry continue to prosper I am seriously going to have to make a decision about how many to raise because I want to do it properly. I have already split the fry into 4 little tanks and am getting a few 200L tanks ready at the moment for their next move and then ....
We have a fishroom with quite a few tanks but this could well over run us if I am not careful.

Thanks Heatherbeast. The sponge filters do a good job whilst fry are small but I don't know how long they will cut it for this spawn. The fry wont be in these little tanks for long, moving up into larger tanks with better filtration. I like to keep the fry tanks bare to aid the water quality. At the moment I am also changing a % of the water in each tank regularly throughout the day. This is our first spawn of Bass and certainly wasn't expecting this

Just one more update and I will leave you all alone. This video shows the fry split into the 4 little tanks. Eating very well and growing

:WHOA: That's one heck of a huge spawn bro  Have you started looking into buyers yet? I have a list of all the LFS around here that usually buy 20 to 50 each from me but they won't take them until their at least 1.5" - 2" long. Also I have recently found a buyer that will take entire spawns and will take them as small as 1/4" and just toss them into his ponds. One thing you should also know is now that they have spawned once you can count on them spawning around every three weeks assuming water quality, diet, space & temp doesn't change...

Thanks Monster. No, I haven't really looked into selling them at the moment but guess I should get onto it. What sort of growth rate and time span should I expect until they are up to about 5cm (think thats about 1.5") all things going well with water and feeding of course

925 ... hmmm don't know but sounds good haha.
4 to 6 weeks is pretty fast. I better get organised.
