Peacock cichlid stocking help? 44 gal.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Alright- so, no blues at all? theres some blues with yellow on them i like, i figured they'd be peacocks? Thanks so much for the tip.

Don't let my experience discourage you though. There are a lot of people who like African cichlids. What is your intent with the tank? Do you want to raise Africans? Do you just want pretty fish?

Just looking for something a bit different, and something to look nice in my room. :)

Find the shop with a knowledgeable person. You can get various peacock cichlids. Pick up a couple of Regal peacocks and a couple of yellow peacocks also called Sunshine peacocks. Once they get to about two and a half for 3in they color up beautifully. Females have little color and will not be nearly as pretty as the males. Another beautiful fish is the Jacobfrabergi. If you get about three of each of these along with a catfish or two you will have an ice tank and as long as you don't mix other Genuses with them you should not have any problems with aggression. They are very easy to keep. You need hard alkaline water. Set up your tank without any fish and let it run for about 3 or 4 weeks before you start adding them. Use crushed coral for your substrate because that will keep the alkalinity High. once you get your tank going and you have it stopped he will have a beautiful set up.

I personally would not want to sell fish once they got big. I get attached to my fish and honestly peacocks often don’t see their full potential color wise until they reach decent sizes. I would suggest you pick 4 maybe 5 peacocks you really like as adults and maybe a few yellow labs and stick with that.
As for algae try a handful of nerite snails. I have about 20 in my tank and they do a great job keeping everything clean.

I think your wish stock list is far too many fish for that footprint.
