Looks very nice and yah that tank gobbled that rock right up. But I think it looks just the right amount for the fish you are putting in.

I would argue that you need to at least get fabric plants but to each there own in that stand point.

As for the micro bubbles. At least they are being trapped in a canister filter and causing it to stop right?

What does the water look like in your return area, ie is it calm or not when it reaches the pump.

Will you be quick seeding (few day cycle) this or will you go w/ the extended cycle (2-4 wks)?

Amazing, very responsible & very appreciated to see the thoroughly planned stages of set up (not the seemingly to common, ok, now that I got this tank what do I do w/ it? and why are there holes in my tank? ) You will surely benefit greatly, most important your fish will. Can't wait to see all dem fishies.

What did you do for your lighting i.e. types of bulbs, single, double, lunar? Thanks

Kev I agree I wanted to go with the more swimming room/huge caves and overhangs look .Fabric plants are on the list of things to get at a later date these plants are temp due to still need a few more inportant items like mag 18 for the usj system and the planted side of the filtration system ( waiting on eco complete plant substrait to arrive)The plants in their now only cost me 30 bucks total so I thought it was a good compromise.The water in the sump is clear as can be and after fixing the leaky fitting (the gray screw in barbed end fittings after the pump) the micro bubbles are all but gone

Big cich, Thanks as you can see from the date I first got this tank till now A LOT of planning was involved and some diy ing and fab work .The tank has been cycling since last w/e I seeded the filtration system and the tank at the same time (lfs gave me their african cichlid w/c water )and the guppies are the continuation of this cycle .I have not checked my params except for ph(8.4)and will be checking this eve.As for the lighting I currently have 2 4 foot twin tube floresent lamps and might add a 4 tube power compact with lunar to try to put on timers to duplicate the day and night cycle .

Ah makes sense. OH you should have totally been at this last action for Atlanta. (IT was today.) I had to make myself leave because everything was going for dirt cheap and a lot of the Malawis were amazing... 13 bucks for a pair of twain reefs, male ~7-8 inches femal ~6. (There were ~6 bags...) There was so much good stuff. I only picked up 1 set of ulysis for 3 bucks, couldn't say no. (My tanks of Malawis are already full). I mean an breeding colonly of Eureka reds (albino!) 1 male 5 females went for ~30 bucks. And they were at mating size. (I have 4 growing out so I didn't pounce, as I said crazy ass deals.)

(I did end up buying another 55 gallon tank and 7 discus, a bunch of apistos and few other misc fish. But I had to leave so that I wouldn't impulse buy these great deals. Trust me when I say there were likely amazing fish going for 1 buck by the end of the day.)

OK so back to the tank. I fully understand the decision to skimp on plants for now. Heck I have skipped on all but filters for all but 3 of my tanks.

So are parameters solid yet? And you are planning on putting all of your guys in at once right? So how are you going to get the tank used to that many fish. Or do you just have a ton of goldfish in there. (It didn't look like it...)

Just don't want you to cause another mini cycle when you pop in your awsome new fish. Oh and make sure to snap some pictures this time ;-)

I really do not use plants in my african tanks....I think it takes away from how great they can look....

Geeezzzzz I would have spent the farm at that place and had to set up a pool to keep everything in . I have 4 doz guppys in their at the moment and will be putting half the fish in their first( the alunocaras ) and give then a chance to grow up(all my fish are juvies)b4 I put the super haps in so no one will end up a missing person so hopefully I wont have a mini cycle?
