thats the logical idea but then there would be no air bubbles allowed up the vertical tank. That would destroy the vacuum at the top. There is actually a pump at the top that pulls the water up constantly. It basically creates a million vacuums a second. I talked to this guy, because I thought the same thing but the bubbles going up made no sense.

ideally you could make a tank like that WITH a vacuum at the top that is about 3 stories tall and the water at the bottom would still hold it all up (because that the specific gravity of water). I think that would be neat.
