People have no morals

Situational awareness can go long way but you are not going to find a whole lot of that in most ten year olds.

Yes crime in SA is crazy. They often break into homes torture the people, rape the women, kill the men, then only steal the cellphones and car(which they often just dump kilometres away). This world is going crazy at an alarming rate
Unfortunately so. i would say the US has much less of a social problem, it is an issue i know but here we have collossal levels of poverty here that creates massive amounts of crime.

the age of the victim isn't my point, its situational awareness from all involved. How did this occur in a public setting with what I can only imagine are more than a few adults, not to mention I'm assuming the child's guardians, around?

and don't tell me you can't teach a ten year old to run like hell from anyone they don't know. I don't know the specifics of this obviously but you can prepare a child to at least try to escape.

True, but not every situation allows for that...

I certaintly wouldn't try to tell you that as most kids most likely wouldn't need to be told to get away from someone whom they do not feel comfortable around.
According to the article the girl and her family was at church for some kind of prayer activity....not exactly the sort of setting in which a ten year old would have to be under constant watch by her parents.

I just have a different mentality on situations like this...I get you can't be glued to your child every second, but what about the other church goers...surely at least ONE of them sensed the situation wasn't right...I don't know I still think preparedness of everyone as a society is something falling to the wayside...

Yes, especially in a crime ridden country. I try and explain and remind my kids what to do in certain situations as often as possible. I myself have a few contingency plans if things go wrong. Plus always be aware of your surroundings.

We don't even know what there could have been about the situation that could have been sensed by someone there.I suspect that the girl was lured away from the area by someone who either blended in with the other people or knew that their presence would draw attention.
