how was training him?
It took a while for him to take to it.I love cats but hate dealing with cat boxes.

LOL,I dont even remember how old he was when we got him but he was'nt a small kitten size when we brought him home.I have'nt seen the training kits in the stores in quite a while.

I have a litterbox avoidant cat (abuse issues from her old home) and I've had to do a lot of research about box training. Automatic boxes are considered bad for cats who aren't absolutely perfect about box usage. Anything that can startle the cat when it's using the box, like a mistimed motion sensor for the raking arm, may cause the cat to avoid the box thereafter. I've even read that having the box near things that can make sudden noises (like a washing machine with a buzzer) is a bad idea.

I scoop twice a day with the Litter Locker, and it's not much hassle at all.

twice a day?! that seems ridiculous. i go to school 2 days a week and work the other 5, i have very little free time, not to mention the waterchanges and all with the tanks. thus the reason i'm looking for an automatic litterbox...

Twice a day may seem like a lot, but unfortunately it's necessary with this particular animal. Many people are blessed with mentally healthy pets, but I am apparently not one of them. :irked: Honestly, though, I can't say that being forced to be extra tidy has hurt me.

If you are interested in toilet training, I think Petco carries the Litter Kwitter system. Several other brands are available online, and I vaguely recall one homespun site that suggests starting with the litterbox placed on top of the toilet.

My cat is also claustrophobic... she refuses to use a litterbox with a hood on it. She also has a chronic urinary tract infection which creates tiny crystals in her urine. When that happens, she tends to pee in spurts in random places. She is having that now. We are her 3rd owners, and her first was a drunk who abandoned her in an apartment for several days after he was evicted. The second home had young kids who chased her, then.. the nerve of them...they gave her up when she started peeing everywhere as a result. She is also very nervous and refuses to be held.

Long story short, unless it's a straight-up box with sand in it, she refuses to go. Wether or not an automatic litterbox works is more dependant on the cat iself than anything else.
Hope I helped :)
