Perfect cichlid for 75 gallons

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah they look hella cool and I will have an acara to have some action at the top, heard they are interactive, but bichirs are cool, just a large cichlid in a smaller tank may look depressing

yeah but what type of bichir? most all of them grow larger than most of the species everyones advised against due to size constraints. i think endlicheri get almost the size of a 75 gallon tank...

Yeah I was thing a butti or a Senegal or a delhezi, mostly wanted an albino Senegal and a butti just to prevent breeding unless they eat completely different diets

Not true. Can they get to 24 inches ? Sure but not captive bred and even a wc one may not get that big, if they did it would take a very long time. Theres allot of bichirs that stay around the 12 to 14 inch mark some smaller.

Yeah can I keep two medium cichlid like acara or fire mouth with two smaller bichir types or two medium cichlids with one bichir? Or is two bichir and one medium or smaller cichlid the best option, I’ve heard acara are interactive, I don’t really believe it

if you say so. not gonna participate in a pissing match but ive personally seen several bichirs over two feet in length in home aquaria. im not saying it was close either these jokers were about as long as my arm. maybe the ones you saw never reached their potential cause someone kept them in a tiny crowded tank.

i know there are smaller varieties of course but there are gonna be three of them in a 75. i think it'll get crowded after awhile, even with fish that "only reach 14".

No pissing match here just discussion.

I have no doubt you've seen polys over 24 inches. More than likely they were wc.

Senagalus, buettikoferi, mokelembembe, delhezi, palmas palmas ,palmas polli, and retropinnis are species that would do fine in a 75 gal. They actually do better in small groups

Also rope fish would work too.

i take your point thats why i was asking which species of bichir was intended. i dont keep them, ive just always seen them in larger tanks. seems like they occupy quite a bit of floor space when theyre grown.

Why don't you believe acara are interactive? You won't know for sure until you own one or several cichlids that are acara like.
