its drifted from speculated requirements on keeping a hyena and general chit chat to whether its moral or not to keep them. maybe we should stay away from the "morals", and keep it to the "if i were to get one, what would i need?" subject.

Lets say I want a hyena (Theoretically).

1. I live in Maryland. Is that possible? Where is this possible?
2. What do I need besides 1+ acre? Diet wise? Training/interaction?

If its legal in Maryland, please check out the exotic animals laws to see if you can keep hyena (any species of hyenas) and well if i were looking for a spotted hyena, i would ask around the exotic animal keepers forum or check out the exotic animals sale ads in the website. Try get a young bottle fed cubs, instead of adults (adult hyenas + strangers= dead strangers) because the hyenas still have strictly hierarchy, even when they are born. The hyenas will fight each other for the high ranks, so its best to get male hyena cubs as they have lowest rank and understand whats their place in the hyena hierarchy. Spotted hyenas eat lots of meat than dogs as single hyena can eat 60 pounds from a single sit. Throw cow leg bones once a while (the hyenas eat bones) for nutrients. Keep them in metal fence, not wooden pen due to their jaws pressure. They can dig under the fences. You must bond with the hyena cubs from early age and dominate them. Never let them dominate you. Replace lots of chew toys (dont get rubber ones).

Thats what i guess, not actual answers about how take care of spotted hyenas.
