I dont get what you mean...are you agreeing? Because thats pretty much what i said...a snake doesn't compare to a hyena.

Another thing to note; is it a "pet" if it needs its mouth tied shut? Thats a pretty basic function for any mammal to be deprived of. DO hyenas pant???
there were also pictures of them without the muzzles, I'm sure they get enough crap from cops when the muzzles are on, you can't expect them to walk there hyenas around town with no muzzles when some people always muzzle there domesticated dogs.

Well i really hate to see hyenas in wrong hands, just like big cats (tigers, lions, cougar etc) in some idiots's hands whos not enough responsible to take care for these wild animals. As im against people who shouldnt have wild animals as pet as these people lack of personal responsiblity. If you research your animals and know what they needs and make sure that your animals stay away from public (hence the private ranches) for safety reasons. Hope they dont sell these hyenas to the people who enjoy dogfighting or animals fighting.

And these pictures sure send wrong message to these people think its okay to keep hyenas as pets. Hyenas were little or never domesticated. Its not uncommon for animal sanctuary have to deal with too many exotic animals, especially too many tigers and lions in some sanctuaries. Many exotic animals ended in canned hunts, taxidermies and sometimes into the wild. That can be future for most hyenas. And its not uncommon to see headlines in newspaper when the exotic animals attacking the people..

Like i said i dont against hyena keeping, I'm against these irresponible people:screwy:

Is there a chance these people know what there doing? Those hyenas looked pretty pudgy to me, it's not like they were shivering as far away from the handlers as they can get, immaciated and covered in scars.

This is Africa. The police, when at all present, will hardly notice the muzzles or the absence thereof.

Wow, there are some interesting offerings there.

Its all good until it mauls the owner and escapes, eats the neighborhood pets and children....then meets its fate with a bullet.

Edit:
One time while on vacation in central florida we checked out a small zoo. Parked next to us was a minivan driven by a bunch of indian guys...with a tiger in the back. They were trying to unload it at the zoo. ****ing stupid...

In certain areas of Florida you can keep exotics however now permits are harder to get for water buffalo-rhino and few others.

IMO still way to easy to get big cats and many who keep them shouldnt these animals wind up half starved and I wouldnt want to live in same area as one if it escapes.

No, if you click on one of the links, you'll read how when they failed to stop at a police check point, the cops opened fire on them, killing 2 hyenas and 2 other officers. So they care enough to shoot them in a crowded area.

well now a days people keep all sorts of things as pets that they probably shouldnt cuddle with. its the same thing. grizzlys, pumas, tiger, lions, yeah they are pets but i wouldnt cuddle with them either :)

What is interesting is that all these predator animal experts wind up killed or badly hurt by them.

Even our own S.Florida shark expert who is sometimes on tv was bit bad by a bull shark and lost chunck of his leg on some tv show while trying to show how they are harmless if you can read their body signs.

Bear, etc experts, keepers wind up the same.

In Africa I suspect what he saids is as a whole the rule .

But we're not talking about these people in Africa, we were talking about owning hyenas in Americas. Why their tails were under behind the legs?

Just one question: where these people from Africa get hyenas and baboons from? I dont think they come from a private legally ranch...

While i agree with most of what you said...whats missing is the potential for the snake to wreak havoc. Obviously depends on the type of snake, but even in the case of a big burm it cannot be compared to a big cat or hyena.

My point of saying "can a knife be compared with a gun" is to say that it can not in some ways, but can in others. A snake can be compared with a hyena in some ways, others it can not. Both can be extremely dangerous. Both can be extremely docile as well.

I have a feeling this thread is turning into another pitbull thread....
