Ive never had any jerks at mine. and actually the one fish lady in massillon ohio's petsmart is very nowledgeable she has stingrays and any question I ask she knows and has a solution for. before I joined this I went their looking at fish I could get I talked to her for a good 1hour 1/2 talking to her about fish and and what I should get.
Not all Petsmarts are like this. I've been here for almost 4 years, this wouldn't happen at our store. Just remember let's not let one bad or even a few experiences make you become a total Petsmart hater and telling everyone you know on MFK Petsmart is evil and bad. Obviously some are, and some Petsmarts are great. It happens with any retail outlet. I don't hate you just because you don't like Petsmart, just like you shouldn't hate every Petsmart and their employees who actually care because of this bad experience.
One night a few weeks ago, I broke the impeller shaft on my Fluval 405 canister and ran to Petsmart to see if they had any in stock. They do not sell parts for canisters.
I was talking to the kid working and mentioned having 2 FX5's on my 220 (note - they do not carry the FX5 nor any of its media). He started telling me how he would just stick with 405's b/c Fluval makes the best canisters and he recommends them above all other brands.
When I instructed him that Fluval makes the FX5 and explained exactly what it was, he just about called me a liar and assured me that the 405 is the biggest canister Fluval makes.
OK OK OK i have been keeping fish for over 30 yrs on and off I'm pretty good with the knowledge of whats what and what can make it with other fish....
I have this guy in his early 20's that every time i go to the pet smart he makes me feel like I'm dumb....Example i wanted to buy a African that looked to me to be in bad health figure i will give it a better shot then he is getting here.
This jerk and its not the first time he says stuff like why Africans????Its not my first choice but what ever floats your boat i guess.....
2nd example....
My daughter has a 2 gal tank with two guppies and a ghost shrimp well she was starting to loose a little interest in the tank so she wanted a 2nd ghost shrimp 33 cents and the guy would not sell it to me cause her little tank has no salt come on man are you kidding me????????
Ironically, I've seen the same thing happen right here on MFK several times. Except people appear to be more rude on the forums because 'everybody' supposedly should know what they are doing already. Does that mean you should stop coming back to MFK? No. You should do your best to correct the situation, or be as helpful as possible. Sometimes it just doesn't work, and you have to accept that. I wouldn't suggest going around ranting about something that doesn't go according to the way you expect it to though.
I CURRENTLY work at a LFS, and if I don't think someone has the proper means for taking care of a fish, then I do my best effort to persuade them to buy something else, or nothing if possible.
Personally I'm not fond of African cichlids, I generally try to interest people in SA/CA cichlids first if possible. So I can understand where he is coming from, haha, just don't necessarily agree with how he worded it.
You're ALWAYS going to find problems with LFS/Chain Pet Stores, its a fact. Talking smack about them though is not doing any good, especially since you never know if some of those people might actually be members here on this forum and be offended by your comments.
yeah i havent really had this problem. The petsupermarket by me is great there all friendly and most know what there talkin about. But the Petco is full of idiots. No one knows much about fish there. Or in how to do there jobs. (not always a bad thing though)
ex.
went to petco yesterday and was lookin at driftwood. small for $5 med for $13. i got one of the medium ones over a foot long. sold it to me as a small for 5. haha went back later that day got 2 more. same thing marked it as 2 small pieces. now it says 2 on that paper they give u. at the reg the guy asked me what was in the bag. i said "TWO pieces of driftwood" on the paper it said 2 small driftwood. he rung it up as 1 pieces. so basically i got 40 bucks worth of driftwood for 10 bucks.
I wanted to buy 10 Mickey mouse mollies from petsmart to feed my turtle and the girl would give them to me because she said they are too cute to be feeders !
I guess I've been lucky to have the pet store I do. I go to a Jack's Aquarium close to home and the people there are always helpful and friendly. They don't know everything, but they do a good job. The fish I get from there are also usually in pretty healthy. Sorry to hear about your problem though. I hate know-it-alls that don't!
