get an incubator and some eggs.
i've raised ducks and chickens like that and they are very friendly.

you could get a peafowl or guineafowl (sp?)
I have a cousin who lives in whales in this very large mansion who has hundreds of peafowl and guineafowl everywhere
even though I have never been there my grandmother has been there many times and she says they follow you around and every morning them come to the back door where he feeds them

A while back the DEC actually came to lake ontario water shed ..on the bay and shot and killed a couple of gorgeous white swans.... that were nesting near the shore line.. they said that they were invading ducks nesting area.. and you know we need more ducks for the hunters... i was sick.. they are so elegant they are almost flawless in their beauty.. now i see a couple more are back.. maybe they got alot of flack for that stupid move.. i wrote in too...so i hope this time they are able to stay here...

Actually the mute swans are NOT native to the North America and cause lots of problems with our native waterfowl and any birds that live in or near the water. Mute Swans often killing the goslings and ducklings as well as young native swan babies when they have a chance. Heck they even drove the Common loons out of the lake in Minnesota, even if its big lake by force the nesting loons to leave. Not only this but mute swan will force our threatened native swans out of their waterways....I wish they use Tundra and Trumpeter swans instead of Mute swans.

Spot on! As beautiful as they are they're a real problem here in the US. Same goes for here in the Mid-Atlantic States. They're a real issue from competing with native waterfowl in the Chesapeake water shed.

i did not realize they were such a problem... there are only a few here.. and i thought the DEC originally introduced them here..

Thats allright not lots of people know this issues with mute swan, I dont think they knew that the mute swan aint native. Some states allowed mute swan hunting depends on their problems.

We can't hunt them around here because it's too hard to tell them apart from Trumpeter, Whistling or Tundra Swans (all natives) when in flight.

thanks...i will have to read up on it... anyway found this beautiful swan pic...:D

That's a shame. I love Common Loons. I really enjoyed seeing and hearing them when I was on vacation in Ontario. We had a cabin on a lake and it was so peaceful and relaxing to hear the pair that lived there call every evening. They have one of the coolest bird calls out there. http://www.ns.ec.gc.ca/wildlife/loons/images.html

A picture to compete with Liz's. :D
