Oh boy....careful with that. That site is run by the center for consumer freedom. An organization that runs smear campaigns against unions, mothers against drug driving, humane society, etc. I'm not going to go into the legitimacy or lack of, for those organizations. BUT the center for consumer freedom is a lobby group. Their campaign "humanewatch" against the HSUS is funded by the agriculture industry. Which makes sense since pro-animal organizations tend to expose the atrocities in big ag...which they would love to have discredited or covered up.

And another note...PETA does kill animals...but if you do a little digging past the BS you will find its not as it seems. They stepped into operations where animals were being euthanized inhumanely and assisted in the establishment of more modern methods.

Its all politics. And PETA uses the shock value.

disclaimer* i don't support PETA

yep sounds like they did the right thing and put these animals down humainly to me. . peta sucks a big roster!

PETA Kills Animals -- And It's A Felony

Authorities in Ahoskie, North Carolina dropped a disturbing bombshell yesterday with the news that they had charged two employees of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) with 31 felony counts of animal cruelty. PETA's Andrew Cook and Adria Hinkle were arrested late Wednesday night after police saw them dump bags containing seven dead puppies and 11 other dead animals in a grocery store's dumpster. Their PETA-owned van, seized by police, contained another 13 animal bodies. Ahoskie's police chief told reporters: "We've been investigating animal cruelty and illegal disposal of dead animals within our city for the last four weeks" -- roughly the same period of time in which our popular PetaKillsAnimals.com website and giant Times Square billboard have been making news.
Responding to our website, PETA has claimed that most of the animals it kills are "broken beings" and that: "[W]e refer every healthy, cute, young animal we can to shelters." But the dead animals included a female cat and -- according to a local veterinarian -- her two "very adoptable" kittens. "These were just kittens we were trying to find homes for," he told PETA's hometown Virginian-Pilot. "PETA said they would do that, but these cats never made it out of the county."

The animal-control officer responsible for the county where Cook and Hinkle were arrested told the Associated Press that PETA had picked up the animals just a few hours earlier. He added that PETA's employees "told him they were picking up the dogs to take them back to Norfolk where they would find them good homes."

Instead, the animals wound up being treated in a decidedly unethical fashion. This morning the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald began distributing a grisly photograph showing a police detective in hazmat garb removing a puppy carcass from a garbage bag found in the now-infamous dumpster.

Last night WAVY-TV's coverage in Norfolk included heartbreaking details from the manager of the supermarket whose dumpster became an impromptu pet cemetery. "They just slung the doors [open] and started throwing dogs ... beautiful cats. I saw a [dead] beagle last week that was pregnant ... last week it was 23 or 24 dogs ... it's happened to us nine times ... they drove straight from there, straight here, and disposed of the dogs in 30 seconds."

Authorities told WNCT-TV in Greenville, NC that they've discovered more than 70 dead animals in the last month that may be connected to PETA. WKTR-TV reported today that Cook and Hinkle are out on bond, "thanks to the President of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals."

In a story that eerily resembles the current charges facing PETA's employees, the Associated Press reported on April 8 that an additional 150 euthanized dogs were found in rural Virginia, apparently dumped in trash bags near a riverbank. The Scott County, Virginia Sheriff is investigating.

heres another article
AHOSKIE, N.C. — Two employees of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals were charged with animal cruelty for allegedly picking up dogs and cats from shelters and dumping their dead bodies in the garbage.
Police said they found 18 dead animals in the bin and 13 more in a van registered to the activist group, all from shelters in the state’s northeastern corner.
Investigators arrested the two workers after staking out a garbage bin where animals had previously been dumped, police said Thursday.
PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said the workers were picking up animals to be brought to PETA headquarters for euthanization. Veterinarians and animal control officers said the PETA workers had promised to find homes for the animals rather than euthanize them, according to police.
Neither police nor PETA offered any theory on why the animals might have been dumped.
PETA spokeswoman Colleen O’Brien said the organization euthanizes animals by lethal injection, which it considers more humane than gassing animals in groups, as some counties do.
The group scheduled a news conference Friday in Norfolk, Va., where the group is based.
Police charged Andrew Benjamin Cook, 24, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Adria Joy Hinkle, 27, of Norfolk, Va., each with 31 felony counts of animal cruelty and eight misdemeanor counts of illegal disposal of dead animals. They were released on bond.
No home telephone number was listed for either Hinkle or Cook, and a message left for Cook at PETA headquarters was not returned. A PETA spokesman said he did not know how to reach Hinkle.

they sound pretty legit to me. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha peta sucks except for making me a cool avatar

PETA are just a bunch of shock jocks like Nancy Grace or Glenn Beck or Dr. Laura. They don't even care about animals. The animal rights stuff is just their schtick and a theatrical gimmick that makes them rank high on the Internet. Nobody should take them seriously.

i never cared to research or follow myself

can someone explain to me why peta kills animals when they are supposed to be helping animals? what's their reasoning behind the killings? are they killing animals they claim are supposedly unfit or unhealthy or not adoptable?

Monkey-in-restraint-tube-inside-Covance.jpg

Vets use similar restraints when taking blood, doing a biopsy, and numerous other procedures. It keeps the animal from hurting you and itself. That type of restraint for monkey research was changed back in the 80/90s I do believe. We never used that type of restraing during any of the monkey trials we did. that said when you have unknown consequences to a drug (animal demeaner is included) every precaution must be made in terms of safety.

The chimps we used for our trials were all living in enclosures that would make the average zoo look like a sham.

So its ok for people to be brutally malled by sharks but its wrong for me to eat a fish? They must be putting paint chips in the veggie burgers.

a couple of you guys got trolled by eddie

no way he was serious with that response with that picture, lol

wow has this thread gone crazy, yet interesting. I am just gonna stick to the peta stuff. I have no clue why they kill animals if they are supposed to be animal rights people. I ve heard its because they think that no animal should be in human hands..? As for the article that was posted.... lol not adoptable? The same people which bought all the animals which WERE adoptable from a shelter (I wanna say it was in NC, but dont remember?) and killed them all. Long long ago they also blew up a petshop (I believe it was in Cali). If I remember correctly they also bought free willy and released him back to the wild (which he could not adapt to, duh he is hand fed and was raised in captivity... so he died). With the way they act, I question their "animal rights" and whatever "research" they do on releasing an animal... oh and they would never adopt a dog to help them out. They can't own any animal and that's how they want it.

I remember when PETA bought up almost ALL of the orange vest hunters where so that HUNTERS might get shot. SO what did the NRA do, TOLD all the hunters "50$ for every orange vest Collected" lol

As I understand it, it's either a quality of life issue or a potential quality of life issue. Such as how people involved in companion animal care will perform abortions simply because they feel that most of these unborn companion animals will find not homes. The chances of them suffering are too high( not to start an abortion debate here I hope). Keep in mind people who recommend this are often experienced in shelter work and feel that when for instance there are already kittens waiting for homes, it's best to avoid bringing in more whenever possible.

For animals who are suffering, PETA sometimes believes that euthanasia is the most humane choice for them. PETA feels that sometimes the quality of life an animal has is not worth living and thus death is preferred.

Even for people who disagree with PETA on the issue of euthanasia , I would ask this: Do you hate every animal shelter that euthanizes surplus and unwanted companion animals too?. There are young, healthy and unwanted companion animals among them.
People getting upset over this situation need to realize that in these cases, PETA and animal shelters are often doing society's "dirty work". The real blame tends to lie in the hands of those who supply the unwanted animals in the first place, such as puppy mills.
