petition for australian mfkeepers

There are so many more fish which should be legal here. The fish would not be able to survive the climate most of the year if they were released into the wild.

Unfortunately there are a lot of areas suitable for invasive species to thrive in australia... So even if it was legal in one state, all it would take is one inconsiderate keeper to move somewhere else and release the fish to cause real problems...

+1 i can understand how you (most the responsible MFK and those others that arent on MFK) feel about those banned fish. but like others say, think of all of those who are not responsible fish keepers that can ruin everything for everyone else...but hopefully things go great...

This is right, One or two ruin it for everyone.

Most fish shouldn't have any problem to thriving into most areas of Australia. But let's be open-minded, Australia has serious problems with invasives, much worse than Americas and Europe.

^ Not to mention that Australia has a lot of animals only seen in select regions of the country...

What you want is irrelevant, laws don't change just because you want. :nilly: I want them to make having a gorilla or chimp as a pet legal, so much for wishful thinking.

I'd like to see it change but instead of them just being available to buy they are classed as restricted and to own one you need to join a registered club and obtain a licence to be able to own one. That would allow the responsible fish keepers to keep these awesome monsters and keep those that would dump it or not care for it properly from being able to purchase one

yeah, they should make people get a liscence to buy the fish instead of just banning them. here in victoria they should make the tropical fish legal, as it gets very cold in winter

+1 for freedom but it kinda makes sence for Australia to have those bans, there so hot almost all year round! I think Australia is the only sensable country (besides a few others) to ban these fish becuase of their ablity to actually thrive in these conditions. but still I'm on the fish keepers side I know there are responsible owners who want these fish I know how it feels I'm in Cali ...
