another thing that sucks about the Lacey, WA petsmart is they feed the wrong stuff to the fish. they put those 'weekend feeders' made of calcium sulfate in like every tank, especially the pleco tanks, and out of three common plecos i bought only one has lived (about 4-5 months) the other two died soon after i got them, they had piss-poor appetite for veggies. even though they have a 14 day guarantee on their fish it's stupid to expend that much gas and my mother's time on a replacement $2 fish... gets old after a while.

sadly those weekend feeder things are a corporate policy, if you don't put those in there in addition to their staple foods (which are actually somewhat diverse, but could be better) you can get written up

sounds like im not the only one who's not happy with petsmart...

very true

i have complained about them to the contact us option on their website and got the generic statement of we will make sure the employees are trained properly and we are sorry you were not happy with them today. this is not the norm blah blah.

So, what I do, no matter on the price, I go somewhere else. Its simple really, if I don't give them money unless I have to, then they won't get my money, lol.

unfortunately there are still lots of people that go there since their prices are good and they will sell anything to anyone.

I too have had very bad luck with their plecos dieing on me. Mine are 0 for 4.

I don't think you can say all the petsmarts are the same though. I don't love or hate petsmart but the one near me isn't that bad. Yes you do get bad info time from time but for the most part the prices on food and supplies are good. The petco near me is alot worse than petsmart. I only come on this MFK for info now because alot of pp on here know what they are talking about and im still new and sick of getting bad advice from chain stores. Most my fish i get from my lfs but in my community tank I got a couple from petsmart and they are doing fine. 2 african frogs going on 6months.

Man, you all got some pretty crappy Petsmarts around you. I have never lost a fish from Petsmart, Petco or my LFS. Unless it's laying on the bottom or gasping for oxygen when you buy it, there's no reason to lose it if you do everything right.

I know next time I go out of town, I am going to stop at every Petsmart along the way. I really have to see all these derelicts other Petsmarts hire plus all their ich-ridden tanks full of dieing fish pressed up against the glass begging to be rescued!

We could always hope that a Pet Smart or other higher up in the company stumbles across this forum and takes it as good constructive criticism. I think that they are all legitimate complaints and should be taken serious by someone.

Yesterday at the petsmart I go to I overheard the girl tell a customer that Pacus are excellent schooling fish for a 55 gal.

The PetSmart near me is AMAZING for a big chain store...the employees are knowledgeable and care about the fish, all there tanks are healthy and clean!

Petco on the other hand i have complained to and threatened to call ASPCA and the local media on them.........and you know what?!.........3 weeks later there tanks look 100% better (still would never buy a fish there).

my petsmart is horrible. giving wrong information, selling you sick and ick infested fish. Also being completely rude, and harsh on bagging the fish. Once i saw a guy get all mad t this little boy that wanted this one fish and instead he caught another fish that was half alive and bagged it. They act like im a idiot, yes I am a teen, but i hav a clue what im talking about.
Im actually impressed with the petco that just opened up near me, the tanks are clean, fish are healthy, they hav a nice selection of community fish, and employes that love their job and do an amazing job at keeping their section of the store pleasant. :)
