Once I have my 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 gallon aquarium in the future when I am rich I will buy every big fish I can get my hands on so they will live happy and healthy. :D

Okay so today I went to petsmart hoping they had gotten more jacobfreibergi peacocks in because they are cheap there. I noticed the guy working there was helping a customer with the fish he wanted to buy. I happened to overhear the conversation, on purpose of course, and I heard the customer ask about the pacu. Which of course are on sale for $3.50 each. This is what I hear the employee tell the customer..."Oh those guys are neat, they only get about a foot long and can live their whole life in a 55 gallon." I immediately whipped around and interrupted the conversation. Here is what I said to them both..."I am going to have to respectfully interrupt to inform you both that this fish can reach 48" in the wild, and usually can reach 30" in home aquaria In other words it can become the size of a 55 gallon." The employee turns to me and says, "Sir, that fish does not and I am helping this customer right now so I would appreciate it if you let me do the customer service, that is why I work here." I got pissed. I said "Are you ****ing kidding me? Why dont you go research what you are trying to sell before ignorantly trying to pass off information? Its people like you that leads inexperienced aquarists to dump their fish that were "only supposed to get a foot long" into local rivers and lakes. AND why I currently have 7 pacus, a rtc, 2 clown knifes, 2 oscars, a tsn, and 7 plecos that i rescued. You shouldnt be a jackass to someone just cause you realize they know more than you. Learn your ****ing job!" That was the last thing said and I left. It was kinda funny cause the guy got kinda scared of me when I raised my voice to him. He was about 5' 10" and scrawny and I am 6' 4" and 230 pounds. Needless to say he shutup right away. lol People like that aggravate me to no end though and I know you guys know what I am talking about. :irked:
Well technically they only get to 36-40" in the wild (40" being the absolute max, and a very uncommon size), and 30-36" in captivity, but yeah most Petsmart employees are complete idiots (although my local Petsmart does have a few more informed employees).

I have a policy to never own any fish they carry at PetSmart. Lucky for me of type of the fish I keep, my local one only has super common Mbuna Africans (Red Zebra, Lab, Bumblebee, Acei, Kenyi, and Auratus). I have heard of other stores having peacocks and EB Ahlis. That really sucks since I have several of those, but I only go by my local store.

The only thing I buy at my PetSmart is dog food. I have spoke to most of the fish dept. Their fish experience ranges from non-existent to marginal at best.

well as petsmart employee i cant speak for every other employee luckily for my customers i have over 11 years experience in fish and ive done so much research.....i wish petsmart had actual test to work in the fish and reptile department because i work with others that know nothing about fish and i have to do everyones job.....its funny cuz people that actually think that about me and come up and ask me "hard" questions i quickly surprise them with my vast knowledge of fish.....that is all

I always appreciate employees like you. :) When I applied for a petsmart job back in high school, all I remember the application talking about was how much you liked people. There wasn't anything about what you knew and I thought that was stupid.

yea i know its dumb....well put it this way ive only been there 2 months now and im curently working to become manager of the fish department....its no surprise that people think that about big chain pet store employees i always do the same and go around to petcos and petsmart and ***k with the clergy lmao......

If some customer's would do some research before they went to the store that would help as well, im tired of being asked about oscars for small tanks...

Had a dude ask to buy an oscar (one of the larger ones we had, probably 4") with a 1.5 gallon tank with no filter..... KJADSKGJLASDGLDSAJ

As far as the training goes, literally the only fish training you get is that the color of the tags are the fish that are compatible with each other, which is also a joke

Employees who do not know much about fish are not just found at Petsmart. My local LFS also have employees that give wrong advices. A Petsmart in my area has a girl that is very knowledgeable. She will even go as far as researching a question she does not know the answer and will call me for what she found out.

When I need advice on how to treat a sick fish, I will go to some Petsmart in my area before going to LFS. These kids know more about fish than some of the LFS in my area.

One LFS sold me Maracyn to treat for bloat.
