Only a select few LFS have a website. All they do is promote thier store and give glossy images on thier setups. No prices.
And yes, for a NATIVE jardini that you can literally catch 1 hour down the road (from me anyway), will cost you an average of $200 for a 10-12" specimen. I've only ever seen another strain of arowana. It was a plain silver, and at 14" or so, lugged at $595 price tag.
Everything sucks.

wow I cant get over that. I mean it makes sense because you guys are so far from everything. Sorry if what I am about to ask you was already covered, but what do your lfs carry? Is there anything common you have over there? and if you dont mind me asking, what do you guys have in your tanks?

I don't know about the east coast, but here in the west we have all the usual suspects, GT, JD, RD,Oscar, Blackbelt, texas etc etc. Believe it or not but Jags aren't very common, though I do know one lfs that has them. Never seen a dovii or umbie :irked:

Saw a Eheim Pro3 in a lfs the other day, $985  Fairly typical though

We do have some awesome natives here though that might not be available elsewhere

Yeah we all have heard our share of horror stories of petsmart and petco selling things to dumb people, and being a rip off, sick fish and so on and so on. So when I was in petsmart tonight I had to take a pic of this rip off. I mean I guess if someones dumb to buy it than thats how they make money. Anyway, this is a 60-75 (no bigger) tank comes with your huge thing of salt and cheapo deco. This tank doesnt include heater btw (it wasnt in the tank that I saw).

what a rip off!

I recently picked up a 90 gallon Eclipse, the stand, multi function light switch (that allows white bulb, blue bulb, and both types to light up and from one fan to two fans in the light - that is with 2 white and 2 blue 48 inch fluorescent bulbs), 4 bio wheels, and 2 pumps (with 4 carbon filters), with 2 access lids in front and it's ALL enclosed.

I snagged this for about $650.00 - front door delivery about 20 minute drive from store

man...that is soo weird....
over here...we get 4x2x2 for about Rs.2000...
which in US dollars...is.....um...$50-60 I'd say....
(I'm bad at Math..... :D)

i went to petsmart a few days ago to buy a severem cichlid (i never shop there but, i guess this was an exception) and the girl working there wouldn't let me buy one because i had bichirs in the tank i was gonna put it in:screwy: she told me that cichlids should only be kept with cichlids and tried to make me buy a ten gallon for it:nilly:

Im glad to share.
My favourite LFS stocks the 'big stuff'. These things are fish such as Oscars, Jags, Veijas, Bala Sharks, Black Sharks, Sailfin Plecs, Red Devil, Texas, Fronts, Clown Loaches, Dovii, BGK, and thats what I can think of, off the top of my head.
The 'standard' LFS carry just bread and butter. All your typical tetras, livebearers, goldfish, cyprinids and cichlids. Its not like in the states were I can pop in to grab a few pacu and RTC's.
And in my tanks, I have the norm cichlids, tetras, loaches, sharks, plecs and livebearers that I want gone.

Get this, just last Sunday, I saw my first Eheim Canister filter. It was a Classic 2217 for $500 ish at a chain store. (Not a bad chain store).

I went in the other night and was greeted by a gentleman telling someone about the nitrogen cycle and why it is important to establish bacteria in their tank. He also helped me snag some beautiful espeis. Petsmarts aren't all that bad..

Ha wow! Right on.. thats pretty crazy! haha I love the... "I want gone" ha! Yea I never said all petsmarts were terrible I just dislike them and happen to see something that bothered me so I shared, dont me wrong, sorry it may have seemed that way. I would love to go to other places and see how the fish hobby is, for instance....Australia would be amazing. Too bad my top fear are airplanes. (and ballons lol) but yea I always wondered what people have at their lfs and how the prices are differ, thanks for the info!

What??? I would have clearly blown a cork .... a 10 gallon isn't big enough!

and unless it was going in with perhaps a dovii or something comparably attitude prone - they are spastic.

my 2 turquoise Severum's have NO problems with my bichirs.

heck - there are even 2 little 2 or 3 month old convicts in with them.

My petsmart sell those size bichirs for $40
