i like petsmart for buying fish...most of the employees at the ones by me can't tell there left from right...or count so i always get free stuff...a good saying that best describes them is dumb as a box of rocks...

I agree... they sold me about 30 rosey minnows for the price of a dozen, back in the days when I fed live food to my turtle.
there really should be a kinda choice in the middle. I have had wonderful petsmarts and horrible ones. Also they have cheap good sized clown loaches
I would say it depends on the specific store. I've been in some really bad petsmarts and I've been in some really good ones. In my area i go to one becasue they have fish that i want that are small but if i need a lil bigger i go to my other petsmart that has a few bigger tanks. That petsmart has some really well knowledged ppl and if they dont know something then i will gladly inlighten them and they thank me for giving them helpful info. so it really depends on the store. ppl say they wont buy from petsmart or petco cuz they get their fish from fish breeders that dont have the greatest facilities. Well even your non chanin lfs gets them from places like that. This is the only way to keep this hobby going at the rate it is growing. its our job to buy these fish and give them better living conditions..
I have had good luck with our Petsmart with regards to their fish. Never one with any Ich or other disease. The selection is pretty slim, but not horrible. Ours carries Cons, JD, Oscars, etc... but their staff is not that knowledgeable.
Petsmart is a hit or miss now my petsmart is like this:
They know a good bit about their fish and know what most illnesses are tank size needed (different from the sticker on the tank) and know what goes with what.
When dealing with fish you cant be more horrible. They gave the fish just enough to swim in and while looking at which fish i had they flipped the whole bag over.
They also gave me 4 female guppies when i said 5

So i guess they are OK sometimes but i only go there when my LFS doesnt have what I want.

The only fish i would buy from them are Senegalus' and hujeta gars. They suck when it comes to rare fish. Finding a sensible clerk is like finding frankensteins brain.
