thank you...... where ya been hiding?

Im around.. been studying for a new job ;)

But yeah RO/DI strips your alkalinity, makes your pH unstable..

Crushed Coral = calcium buffer + biomedia.. popular on the other side of the pond.

If you have bad contaminants in your water, try another type of chemical media, such as PolyFilter, or ChemiPure.

even just a sediment and carbon block filter or 2 would be good off the tap water line....

and don't forget that Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates, Dissolved Organic Compounds are all acidic and will drop your pH when your alkalinity is weak from the RO.. and your 'good' bacteria also consumes the minerals that make up your alkalinity.. That is if your nitrobacteria is even staying alive below 6.0pH ;) it starts to die that low, and ammonia converts to ammoniums.

Peace :D

ok guys, thanks for your help / advice, its appreciated. My question was that as my tank is currently 175ltr tap and 175ltr RO, would it be ok to just go to full tap water in one full swoop or be better to take it in steps?

just do it through small water changes.... dont add anymore R/O just tap through several smaller water changes

just checked with a new digital ph kit ive bought and its 4.28 :(

Doing a 25ltr change tday with normal tap

PH is now 4.86 after a 25ltr change of tap. Any1 recommmend when i should do the next and howmuch ltr?

Yeah bro you might consider the crushed coral idea in your media baskets..

your kH is so weak ANY sort of waste build-up in the tank will drop that pH, more and more.. you might discontinue feeding or cut way back for a few days, it only makes it worse. Also make sure your filtration media is clean because any extra detritus will not only strip the kH but is also acidic and will drop the pH.
