Philosophy Paper: I got a "C-"! HELP!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The prof was asking for YOUR opinions and asking you to back them up with why you feel that way. That is ,after all, the root of all philosophy.

Besides...Socrates was just trying to impress the pants off of his young male students...

in layman's terms....

A: One cannot "learn" or made aware of something in which their minds do not already have the capability to grasp... or recall....

B: How can you already know something in which you have never been exposed to it in the first place....?

C: The mind can only "learn" if it makes sense based upon prior facts supporting the lesson...

D: Where in turn does it start? if everything is supported by previous knowledge.... infinity??????:nilly:

typical Socrates philosophy.... question a question with a question.... I think you got perhaps a bit too deep with life and death.... maybe the professor was looking for a more simple explanation....?

are we even talking about the same subject????

yes, we are on the same page.
did you study socrates?

C. yes, that too.

i dunno. yeah, maybe i just argued on the wrong points.

i'm in a world of pain right now. suicide really is a possibility. jkn. well, i guess i am not smart enough to not ever go to class and still get a good grade. i can't wait to talk with my TA on Tuesday to find out why I received a C-. I really tried on this paper. Usually, when I put forth such an effort I get an A- or B+.

problem is I think the idea that learning is recollection is complete crap

So .... what have YOU learnt from this? Do you think you will remember this experience and gain something from it? Agree with other posters you were trying to read too much into Socrates.

Your paper reads like an internet copy paste...no offence intended. I write professionally and the impression it gives is of someone desperatly parroting information for a grade...NOT like someone making and defending a point. I realize that a lot of work went into it but sometimes your MUCH better off writing a first draft from the heart and then looking for ways to polish it. Writing to impress...rarely ever impresses anyone.

Better then some of the stuff i have done... I hate HPE (health education stuff), I didn't know what to do for an assignment, and it was the due day... I was going to tell her, But, yeah, a pretty girl detracted me, as they do, then i started looking at fish on google. So at the end I got yelled at by the teacher and my parents wrung. Yeah, That sucked, I hate being yelled at, specially by my dad, There is no limit when he yells at me, Most of the time i get 5 + back hands, it doesn't hurt or anything, But, It's still unpleasant. Hopefully I don't have HPE next year, or the same teacher, If i do, I'm going to be very unhappy and going to talk to my deputy princable about moving classes.

nope never studied Socrates.... but i heard he never claimed to know anything and kept asking questions upon questions until the day he died.... or was sentenced to death....

the statement “learning is recollection” just makes sense....

perhaps your examples... though correct in supporting the hyposthisis were not original thoughts.... rather taken from Socrates himself....

i don't think one can really put a grade such a term paper.... its all based on view point of the "grader"

agreed.... harsh but agreed....

what were the other criteria of the paper.... many times people will tell you what they want you to tell them back.... :nilly:

I got a D- by the way, She gave me exter time and I didn't have the right infomation.. SHe writ on my report "Despite Liam's athelete ability, He is a very poor student in theory and should have a close eye on him. (at this point my parents were in disbelief, Non of my otehr comments said that I was a poor student or I was distracting.)Even though he got more time he failed to complete his assignment (I was very mad at this point) Yada yada, more bad things written about me. At the end I was just about to rip up the report.
