ahha, that is funny. poor kid. you'll be alright. i hope your parents don't beat you too badly. child abuse is wrong. but a smack is cool when it is premeditated and not out of rage.

as for my paper. it is very difficult to tell what a teacher wants a student to do. usually, and i am being dead honest, i get penalized for not giving textbook answers. i even think that some professors would call this paper "creative" and perhaps too creative. ****ing teachers got me all mixed up.

BTW, I respect brutal honesty. I might not enjoy it, but I always prefer the truth when it comes to learning.

So .... what have YOU learnt from this? Do you think you will remember this experience and gain something from it? Agree with other posters you were trying to read too much into Socrates.

Lesson learned: I'm not freakishly smart yet. Therefore, I had better attend class if I want to get good grades.

Lesson learned: spend more time figuring out what the teacher wants to see in a paper.

****!

yes, I understand you completely there. For e.g If you are making a chair or something, and some one thinks it's utter crap that person needs to tell you SO you know what to do. Do i get you?

I am in a similar situation as you are. I'm a Political Science major at UCLA and theory is my weakness. I try to stay away from theory classes as much as possible but I still manage to B-s in theory classes. I wish I could help you though but I'm not as confident on the subject matter as well. I like reading Socrates but hell, he is a pain to comprehend.

What I have found out that worked for me is find a "different" interpretation of Socrates' words and then expand on it. Professors love a new "view" that will further add to their understanding of the subject matter.

I'm doing a bouble-major in art and philosophy at UCLA. I tried to give my own interpretation. It's really hit or miss when it comes to being creative with theory. I still feel sick about it.

Fellow Bruin? Sweet! What type of fish do you keep? By the way I'm also an environmental systems minor.

I keep caribas. What do you keep?

Environmental systems? Never heard of this major before. Goes to show how much I know or how big the school is.

What year are you? I have two more years.

I keep datnoids, a clown knife, a temensis, and an ugly catfish. I'm a senior, I should hopefully be done by summer next year. Environmental systems is just a minor, environmental science is a major.

Every once in a while you had inconsistencies in Grammar but that's hardly an issue in philosophy. Your paper as a whole was worthy of much more than a paltry "C-", especially as Plato's Phaedo is targeted at the 'everyman.' Whether or not Socrates is correct, you got hosed.

your writing format is all over the place. I grade papers often for my classes I teach. There is no introduction conclusion. the first have of the paper is quotes, and nothing of your own. Then all your own. Spread out the material if you need to quote. Explain more, and less quoting. I am also confused by your paper. Your ideas are not clear. Did you write this in class, outside class, it seems you need to have someone proof read your paper, not for grammar as many people think, but for flow and making sense. You can read the paper and get it without thinking. In your mind you fill in or know what you mean, we do not... Hope this helps... so you know I give lower than C- for this...
