Cool...thanks for the advice. I know I need to get similar sized cichlids in there quickly to have a good chance of making it work. I am planning to order from Jeff Rapps in the next day or so...tomorrow if I can make up my damn mind on what I want. I am thinking Trimac, Festae and Carpintis Escondido along with some dithers and a bottom dweller. They would all be small and grow together, then transfer to the larger tank in a few months along with a few new fish. Sound like it would work?

depends how agressive they are

First off, welcome to MFK.

You can add those other fish like escondido, trimac and festae, they would need to be simular sized as all these fish are big aggressive ca/sa cichlids.
You would need a big tank like the 240, thats if it works, it doesnt always but you have a decent chance if you grow them out togther.

Also dont feed goldfish to your jaguars, its a waste, they are bad for them because the dont have a good amount of nutrition and carry deseases, if not quarentened.

Also 120 gallon is minimum from a male jaguar and 75 for a female.

Bass n ri, you had a jaguar at 1" and it took 5 years to get 9"!!!!! thats really poor growth rate, have you been doing weekly large w/c? also did your jaguar have a staple diet like hikari cichlid gold not crappy goldfish?
I got my jaguar at the start october at 1.5" and its now 9-10".

Also i really like your tank, lots of hiding places and looks really good, once you move out the jaguars etc, you should get some thorichthys group for that tank it would look great!

I bought a couple of tiny jags from PetSmart. One has turned out awesome. It's a female who has bred with both my males in the same tank. The other, I bought because it had a deformed face. I felt bad for it. The female is at 6" after six months and three spawns so far. The other one I got about 3 months ago at less than 1". He's now about 2 1/2".

Here's a pic of the Petsmart female and her fry.
Her moving wrigglers. This is in the 190g in my sig.

Daddy with her just behind him and their fry. This is also in the 190g in my sig.

At the end of the day, she has turned out to be an awesome speciman. She has exhibited great parental care and has a decent personality. I don't regret it one bit. I hope the deformed one grows out, I felt bad for him and would like to see what he looks like bigger. If I don't get some from Rapps, I might get some more Petsmart ones as soon as the big tank is set up.

Thanks for the advice and the comment on the tank. I put a lot of work into it...I had to twist my arms backwards and hold my mouth just right to get the big piece of wood in there in one piece.

I won't feed them goldfish...I have heard too many horror stories. I will either set up a 55 gal. to breed my own cons for live food or just stick to pellets and occasional earthworms, crickets, tilapia filets, ect.

I am not familiar with torichthys but I will definitely check them out.

Good luck with the little deformed guy. Maybe he will turn out ok.
