Picked up a 535

I created a recent thread asking about electrical. My understanding is that that standard 15 amp circuit can handle 1440w but you want to try and stay under 80% of the max load. Add up the watts if all your equipment and you’ll know if it’s sufficient or not.

JK47 you gave me the same advice about the ultima and bioload. You don’t think the ease of maintenance and reliability are worth it? That’s what had me going that direction. Benefit of closed loop and then literally cleaning the filter is minutes without worrying about socks or any other mechanical.

I personally would go sump even if this tank hadn’t come with one since I always felt it gave so much flexibility in the long run. I’m no expert which is why i didn’t chime in on your thread. If anything I was going to add the bead filter...obviously not now that I won’t “need” to per se.

The extra water volume doesn’t hurt and maximizing swimming room and scaling room rules out matten filters for me because I like to heavily scape my tanks and like to rest wood up into the corners of my tank.

I plan to do a wood setup similar to what I had in my old 225. Matter of fact, I’m going to use these exact same pieces of wood in the 535.

OP seemed to be on the fence about the RIO, hence the suggestion. Also he mentioned SA cichlids. With that bioload the ultima type filters are a tough budget to swallow unless the benefits outweighs the investment. Your planned bioload plan was much higher correct?

JK47 current stock will be a single aimara wolf fish that will be around 18-20in once I get the tank up and running. They have the potential to get to 3ft or more but that will take many years. I plan to add a school of tetras once he is big enough to ignore. As he’s solitary now, I don’t see myself really being able to give him large tankmates.

I’m trying to aim least maintenance and convenience. I can see myself getting the ultima if it saves me lots more of time. I run ac110s right now and I hate cleaning the sponges, and it’s hard to get less maintenance than that.

Love the setup. I’m trying to decide between a large tree trunk in the middle of the tank or the use of dragonstone/ocho stone. Love that stone but worried about the sharpe edges. The other thought was using manzanita wood to help conceal the matten filters.

The openings are not too large so it may be difficult getting a single large piece in. Several smaller prices mixed together to resemble a large single piece may be the way to go.

Just ordered a stand today. I’ll be getting it in three weeks. Using a local builder and doing a simple open wooden stand made with 2x6’s and plywood.

Quick question, do I put a piece of styrofoam under the tank or do I rest it on the plywood directly?

Also, the pic below shows the general condition of the acrylic. Pretty clear with some minor swirls. I’m hoping I can go straight to Novus instead of having to wet sand the tank. If any of you can offer opinions that would be appreciated. Thank you.

I had a huge oscar that wrecked one of my acrylictanks i went to auto zone a bought a bottle of miguires headlight repair, it took all the scratces and swirles out pretty good, you get more and its cheaper than novus. I also clean my tanks regular on outside with PLEXUS, i dont know if these products are aqaurium safe or not but i just dont get it in the water.
