You're right there isn't any need to look deeply into the fish but far more importantly there isn't a need to provide false identifying characteristics. Once again as Gator said....All pickerel have a "teardrop" under their eye (and all Esox have this when young).
This isn't a huge deal but forums are often places where people new to this type of stuff come to learn. Providing half truths can/will mislead new members. Please refrain from quick posting misinformation.
I spent about 30 min watching him after lights out last night. He must have been hungry. Got to see him go after some feeders. Gotta love. The way they cock their bodies in that "S" shape right before striking. I was getting goosebumps just watching.

Awesome fish! I'd love to have the room to keep one of the smaller Esox species. Good luck with it!

SO far hes only been feeding at night. I watched him for a while with my cam running but he didnt get anything. Eventually I'll get a good shot.

Where did your pops catch the Chain Pickerel? I caught a few at Oakland Lake near Queensborough community college right by northern blvd.
I was with my girlfriend fishing last summer and I caught one at that lake and she's like "aww he looks cute lets take him home" Im like sweety....it will be like 20 something inches someday and a 75 gallon tank is not gonna work
I threw him back ......when I fish there I always catch something out of the ordinary...I'll go crazy using kool Bass lures and instead of getting LMB I get Chain Pickerel. I use corn and bread for the Bluegills and I end up with a Carp

.......but wait till you have the Chain Pickerel for about a year or 2. When I had my largemouth bass I swore I would just give it away when it got to big no problem its a dumb fish.
When I gave it away last year it was the first time any of my friends saw a 26 year old cry while giving away a pet fish.
Their personalities grow on you and they almost become like a pet dog when you get home they wait for you and they show you that they are excited to see you home so you can feed them.
