Yeah im gonna give the vet a call first thing tommorrow before i bring it in and see what he says. I just didnt understand what i did wrong. I kept the water clean been putting betadine on the infected spots and made sure the food is correct. Been feeding it spurilina disk and green peas and chopped carrots. Also put in pimafix to stop the fungus or any other bacteria from affecting it. I just cant believe this Sh_t is happening.

it is not your fault. i believe it was already infected but you did not notice it till you finally realized that it is floating around. you are doing a great job so far. don't blame yourself.

It’s not your fault. Don’t feel too bad about it
It is likely it’s lungs are already infected when you got it.
To the new FRT keeper, lung infection is very hard to detect till it’s a full blown infection. The tell-tale signs are very slight and usually you can only tell when you find the FRT butt slightly floating up when it rest on the tank floor. It’s something not easy to tell and you can think it’s suffering from gas at times.

Anyway Pimafix is for external bacteria. This is internal.

Seriously, I cannot imagine the conditions the ex-owner kept the turtle in. It must be really horrible -_-“

This is what fortum does:

FORTUM is used to treat a wide
range of infections caused by
bacteria. These infections may affect
the chest (bronchitis or pneumonia),
ears, nose, throat, bladder and urinary
tract, skin and soft tissue, stomach or
bones. Doesnt mention anything about lung infection but i would have thought maybe it would have stopped the bacteria from affecting the lungs of the FRT.

I think talk to the vet tomorrow morning.
Maybe we'll wait for Schmike to come in to see what antibiotics his vet gave him for his FRT

what i got was Trexofi. I'm not sure of the dosage for the FRT of your size and weight. you will need to check with the vet.

i just emailed the vet which i always visit for my sick pets (which are all aquatic pets) to see if he can help us with a documentation on FRT diseases and treatments. he is a specialist with aquatic creatures.

hopefully he will be able to help us. with the documentation, we can help people who have limited access to vets with experience on FRTs to get proper treatment for their sick FRTs.

Thats excellent!!! I just hope i can get enough info. to fix the poor guy before anything else happens. It seems like with this FRT new surprises seem to always pop up.

Well the one i got is only 3 inch shell size. I'm only giving it 1ml injection shot as prescribed by my vet. Anymore could be poisonous he says.

once he agrees to help we will try to consolidate pictures and symptoms from members here and in a singapore based forum. hopefully members here and there can help to get more from other sites and forums.

we hope to get cases all over the Internet before we organize and pass it to the vet for his professional comments. this will be very tedious for him with his tight schedule. hope that he can find some time to help us out on it.

normally the dosage of medication is based on the weight of the turtle.

Maybe you can tell yr vet that a FRT with lung infection was treated with Trexofi. That could help

Yeah we were talking earlier that although there is much information about FRT care, there is very little information on FRT diseases etc

Will try to get as much info as possible
