Pirana are now being kept in large tanks with other tetra like buck tooth tetra, pacu and wolf fish. Do any of you do that?

At the store i work at we have a big tank and we just put them in there with buck tooth bunos aries tetra and buck tooth all in the same tank.

I thought it was stupid idea but they all said it is ok.

ANd also what is the most aggressive species of pacu? Is there a small species we can keep in 100 gallons?

i had no idea they were that dangerous

From juvenile size I kept Pacus and piranhas together both red bellied. Couldn't tell them too much apart but they all ate the same food and never a vegetarian staple

I’ve read accounts of Pacu biting toddler’s fingers, attacking swimmers in rivers, and even leaping from the tank to bite their owner’s nose. Two fisherman were attacked and bled to death on Papua New Guinea’s Sepik River due to grisly injuries to their genitals. They may not have a Piranha’s sharp teeth, but make no mistake these are aggressive fish that can adapt and overrun an ecosystem.

looooool I guess karma exists?

is the above true? pacu really that powerful? I could see like a big wolf fish killing a person with the right bite or even a HUGE snake head musky, i know great barracuda have killed people can do it easy even by jumping out of the water attacking people on boats. BUt a PACU??

They are nearly identical looking at 4-5in IMO

They are identical looking until 4-5in or if there is a way to tell as juvies I would like to know.

I'd say a pacu is definitely capable of injuring a person. But that article is exaggerating the aggression of a pacu, they can be fairly territorial, but I don't see them attacking people in the wild.

Pacus were once featured on the tv series "river monsters" where they were found to be the culprits behind some men that had some of their testicals go missing while swimming in the waters... they do like nuts!?!

In every river monster episode, there is a claim of being attacked by the fish he's after. A claim is just a claim. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I'm not saying it does either.
