I am currently looking to build a tank in the area of 800g to 1000g. I love my pirahna and want to see them in this tank. Do I have any chance of keeping 8 pirahna with any other large fish? I was thinking of a Silver Arowana and a couple rays (a costly mistake if wrong). Has anyone tried it? I think I know what the outcome will be, but I just thought I would ask.

i had 4 red bellies 2 15" oscars 2 dempseys and a pleco all together as long as everyone was well fed I had no problems. I fed them at least once if not 2 times a day though

I would not risk this. It's exceptional that piranhas get along with other fish, think about the aro and rays... You can feed them well sure, but nature is nature and eventually when the lights are off they will strike. Piranhas are very nervous fish, and they will turn on a target in a blink. In nature, another story, but in a tank environment I would not take a chance.

hmm that would be interesting in a large tank with only 8 piranhas..if you have the money then id say give it a try, im still gonna say that your gonna end up with dead fish though

I would not personaly my friends piranah seem to nip at every thing moving add it would be a very costly mistake but you must post video if you do. :headbang2

I had a juvi rbp that I had to temporarily remove from the normal tank. I put it in a tank which was being used as a growout tank for a juvi silver arowana. I naively thought that if I kept everyone well fed that the new arrangement would work out in the short term, but I came home from work one day to find half an aro sunk to the bottom of my tank.

My tank was obviously much smaller than yours, so I would think you would have a better chance of yours coexisting. I would guess though, that at least the aro would eventually end up as lunch. Aros lack the aggression that oscars and other cichlids, which I think would make them more vulnerable to the p's. Only way to know for sure though would be to try it. Keep us updated; it would be an interesting experiment. Post some pics if you do decide to try it!

Sounds like an interesting tank. Why not add more mixed pygos of equal size, I like seeing videos of mixed pygo shoals and am looking into diversifying my shoal by adding a couple of caribe or terns. In a tank that large you could probably get away with some equal sized cichilds, but you will probably lose some. My Ps lived well with a few cichlids, but eventually ate most. I did have cons successfully breed in my P tank, con are always an option when space is available. I wouldn't risk an Arro or rays, bad idea IMO.

with a tank that size, why rbp's??? you shoud get some pbass with a silver arowana and lots of rays. and then have a 100 gallon with your rbp's. :D
