piranha update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the one in the front center is a new one the reds are in the back theres a smaller red and the eye shine is seen

155 gallon 8 piranhas 5 are reds 3 new ones have decided to fight to the death im not sure if its a turf thing 5 have been there for 6 years and they shyed to the corner while hell broke loose the three i had to quiet time them

Maybe the new ones are females. You know what happens when you put them together lol!

Seriously though, I hope you can straighten that situation out.

i was actually thinkin they were males cuz my reds are fat and these are skinny i read somehere males are skinny and females fat wow i mean thick lol

look like all reds to me too.

some things that might help when adding new piranhas to an establish shoal

change the tank around aka aquascaping

give the new inhabitants and old inhabitants a scare by chasing them around after putting them together.

Their size has more to do with how they are/were fed, and their age.

And a couple of days of darkness. This always worked for me when adding new plecos to my RBP tank. This is easier if the tank is in the basement, otherwise a blanket could be used.

so what i did was separated the three new piranhas from my shoal, left the light out cut back feeding, monitored the three new ones who continued to fight. I seperated the trouble maker from the other two. Monitored the other two for a day to make sure they could get along. Then I moved the most docile one pirahna to my tank first, monitored for a day, then moved the second piranha. SO now i have seven piranhas in my tank and i left the troublemaker out of the mix. I also ordereed a 3200 gallon powerhead. Hoping thaqt the water flow will give them something to one do besides chase each other or fight. SO far so good, every seems to be doing good. Leaving the light off has definetly made a difference too. Thanks for all the advice...
