piranha update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dubai Aquarium keeps there piranha tank at 21 C, this makes them less aggressive and they don't lose as many fish.

They also looked half dead when I was there. I've also seen the P tank in Sheds aquarium and Ripley's in TN and you can tell by looking at all of these that the temps are low because the Ps barely move around. They also didn't show very good color IMO. I understand why they do it, I just think they could do better at showing off the species.

I haven't been fortunate enough to see those tanks and I'm jealous! I've seen the display in Vegas and it looked nice, although I don't know what temps they run.

Some times it might have something to do with how you take care of them. Mine were bright silver and took forever to chance and get that light garage and brown we see on older reds but one that I got from a petstore that was really dirty and didn't clean there tanks, he was a rusty gold color but once I got him home his color lightend up and looked back to normal. Your tank looks clean and healthy so I geuss the just get thier color when they do.

^ that's all about substrate and background color. They do adapt diff coloration

I have black background, mine are always dark. Every pic I've seen on here with blue background has silver/light color red bellies

^ And also the amount of stress they’re under. As far as color goes in 78 degrees, here are a couple of shots of mine (dark window tint black background). Here they were only a little more than a year old (I raised these guys from 1.5".). Low lighting made a big difference for their temperament too. The lighting for this tank was 3 x 20W dimmable halogen puck lights (something like this). All they ever ate was beef heart slices and sliced white fish; and large feeders once or twice a month for fun.
