Ok so a couple days ago I went to petsmart and they were having this huge sale with all cory cats and all tetras only $1 of course I couldn't resist buying a bunch of fish and my most interesting find are called buenos aires tetras I'm not sure why but these fish remind me of red belly pirhanas. They school like them, they eat like them in terms of how they feed such as one bite after another and repeating, they also kind of look like them. So I was wondering if there is anything like this species that looks similar and isn't the size of a pirhana or smaller than buenos aires which reach a size of around 3 inches? But I really like the look of these guys and I like the feeding habits but I want a smaller breed of red bellies basically but not as vicious and must stay under 7" I've just never seen or heard of any larger fish like this. Maybe you guys can help? Thank you

Basically what I'm trying to get at is I want a schooling fish With pirhana like feeding habits such as way of attack and this fish must be bigger than 3" and smaller than 7" or around that area? Please tell me this fish exists

Well pacu look like piranhas but get massive. Silver dollars look like piranhas but not red bellies more silver. Also in some local shops I've seen a few other fish that looked like them. Honestly I would just get the real deal. They are excellent fish

I want something I could keep in a 55 gallon that's why I said no bigger than 7" so I think im gonna get like 20 buenos aires lol they are extremely cool fish look into them and they only get 3" so they are ideal aquarium fish. I am pretty sure in a 55 I could even keep one red belly and I would need at least 4 so red bellies are out of the picture. Any other ideas?

Sounds like you might like buck tooth tetras-exodon paradox. They get about 3" and quite vicious when it comes to feeding. You would have to keep them by themselves in a 55g. They are beautiful as well. You wouldn't be able to find them at petsmart or any type of piranha.
I know there are smaller piranha sp. then red bellies, but not sure which.

If anyone knows of these smaller pirhanas please share and I like bucktooth and one time at my local petco they had a lone red belly in a 10 gallon a nearby pet owner donated because of a reason I forgot but it was something with the red belly killing everything so the petco took it and sold it like the next day but I got to see it. My petco does that all the time I've seen them take in all types of fish then sell them for double value lol those sneaky bastards
