Pit Bulls

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi there i just have to add something, wasnt going to but i just felt like i had to. I just recently had to put down my boxer 2 months that was 8 yrs old. He has grown up with pits, labs and other boxers all its life and has been around children all his life. He had a personality like no other and loved any attention given to him weather it was an adult petting so gently or a kid chasing him in circles and trying to ride him like a pony. 2 months ago my daugter started to crawl and BAM he attacked her and bit her side of her face and the back of her collar bone. These two were bestfriends and "rocky" always loved to come up and play with her and even when she had her naps hed lay beside her playpen and nap with her. My point is ANY dog will attack they are just like humans and every dog will have a bad day or two. You cannot trust anydog with a child and its not fair to a child to put them in a predicament such as that. (I know this now). Now a few things saved my daughter from being killed and thats is the fact i was right there when it happen,he had no fangs(due to falling as a pup) and he let go of her as soon as i grabbed him. Now with a pit there is no getting him/her off a child unless theres some time of firearm involved usually due to their lock jaw and i believe this is a reason for people who have them around children should not. I know a pit can be just as much of your child like a child but really what is more important? A dog or your child? Can anyone say 100% they know a dog would never attack?
I added some pics to show how sweet rocky really was...............

Damn, hope your litle girl heals up well. I think you made the right decisision.

I recently got myself a new dog, after my 12 y old akita Oiji died. I have him now for three weeks. His name is Falco, he is a 2 year old Rhodesian rigdeback x American Staffordshire Terrier mix. He is very friendly and much less agressive then my akita and my malamute.

I know someone near us who has a german rott and a basset hound mix.. I was over there when some friends came by, the rottie ran right over and slimed them with her horrible wet kisses, and then the basset mix got loose and tore the person's hand up.
that's what i tell people who come over watch out for his tounge! you'll know when it happens. you have to scrub to get it off, running water over it just doesn't cut it!:D

:iagree:
in the end no matter how much we treat them like a human, they are still an animal. though we like to think we know our animals well they can still be unpredictable.

This is a very sad story,... but one that needs to be told and heard... a dog is still a dog... they just do not know that it is wrong.. and prevention of incidents like this is the only way 100% that it will not happen... my little sister was blowing bubbles and the dog missed the bubbles and bit her face... there are certain times when children and pets should be apart or separated.. and supervised.... young children are fragile and need to be protected and the dogs need to be protected from what they may do... i love both so try not to mix until older. i hope your baby will be okay...

freshwaterfishing, I am very sorry that happened to you guys, it's tragic when somethign your trust does that. But as I've said in another thread, dogs are animals and they don't see things like people do.. Again, verry sorry, I hope your girl is ok.

What I must say though, is pit bull terriers can not "lock" their jaws, that is a myth, when they're trained to fight they're trained to hold on, but so are dogs who are in schutzhund.. any dog can be trained to hold on, I finally taught my pom mix to hang off of a rope, I think it's kind of funny watching her do that though.

Hi there Liz and everyone else thats hoping Natasha is doing ok. Well she is doing alot better she has a couple of scars on her cheek now and one on her collar bone but the doctor said its the type that might take a couple years to heal but will eventually go away. He says its great cause babies heal quickly. What a scary thing to go through though. I forgot to mention aswell that the fowlling day after the attack it was like neither of them even remember what happened. We had gates blocking "rocky"from us and he just wanted in so bad and same with the baby wanting out to play with him. But theres to show it wasnt just a vicious attack, it was just a bad night and things happend at the wrong place and wrong time. Dogs should just not be anywhere around small children no matter how sweet and lovable they seem.
