Pitbulls

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i like pitbulls.

Infact my wife is tryin to get me to get one of my uncles puppys. The 11 puppys are mixes of pitbull and rottwiler. God i want one.

Most attacks are NOT by pit bulls, they are just the ones the media tends to report. Half the time they are some other breed that is misidentified.

I work at a shelter and I do temperament tests on the dogs that come in. We see A LOT of stray pit bulls. I've seen way more aggressiveness towards people from cocker spaniels, labs, and pomeranians than ANY pit bull. Dog aggression is a whole nother issue.

Talk to your local animal control... I can almost guarantee you , 70-80% of the reported dog bites aren't made by the apbt(Pitbull) . It's just the media , they tend to blow those stories up when it comes to the that breed. Any breed of dog are capable of such harm ( well besides the really small breeds) it's just up to the owner to raise and train them right.the way I look at it, it's like raising a kid.. Show them the love that they deserve and proper way to treat others and you shouldn't have to worry about having a bad person in the future.I'm just sayin ....,,

the problem is a pitbull is so loyal that if there owner is a deuschbag they are a deuschbag.... my dad rescued a red nose(pure bred) as a little puppy and the dog is incredible... no leash necessary.. stays by your side all day... if it doesn't like someone it stays by your side barking until you tell it to shut up or attack... i know other people with red noses(only speaking for the one breed) and one person with blue and it's the same deal...

they are popular for fighting, but as far as attacks on humans... the german's take the cake... Shepard, rottweiler and dobermans are some of the worst... but they are breed to attack/ guard... pitbulls are very smart and are used for things like search and rescue to therapy...

by the way most wouldn't know but the american temperament testing association rates pitbulls like 5% above dog average for good temperaments... the only problem with these dogs is people shouldn't be buying new puppies... they should be rescuing! if you want a puppy get a dog that is rare and not over breed and found in every shelter!

not my favorite dog breed, but very impressive as far as i'm concerned!!

Also I think people need to teach their kids to be respectful towards animals. Kids also need to be supervised when interacting with animals.

I have a super sweet 9 year old terrier mix that loves people. But last week she snapped at my friend's 2 year old because he jumped on her and hurt her. I honestly don't blame her. She didn't make contact, it was a warning.

I used to be a bit apprehensive of pitt bulls until I worked at a grooming salon. I was bitten by schnauzers, dachshunds, shar peis, chows and poms on the reg' but my favorite customers were always the amicable pitt bulls and other bully breeds.

Now I have one and have definitely had to be more diligent in socializing and curbing bad habits than the labs I had previously but its just a different set of variables for each breed. I think pitts major enemy is their popularity. So many people who don't want to put the hours in for a well balanced dog have them anyway for some weird pseudo-gangster status/home invasion protection. And somehow its still acceptable to chain ones dog and forget about their emotional well being, any dog that is left like that for extended period is going to be Hannibal Lector when it gets loose. 90 % of the time around here I see dogs chained they are poor pitt bulls with the dirt ground down in a circle from pacing and loneliness.

As the owner of 2 Pits i have nothing but respect for these dogs. Pits were bred to be dog-dog agressive, not dog-human agressive. Lets call it what it really is. White trash, Brown trash, Black trash, Asian trash is the reason these dogs get a bad reputation. When a puppy is treated by its "trash" owner like a weapon or indimidation device the dog becomes agressive towards humans. Pits want to please their owner, when the owner lets it bark, bite, or whatever it will do so thinking it is pleasing the owner. I want to puke driving through the city and seeing THUGS walk their pits not as a loved pet, but as intimidation device. I am all for special permits to own these dogs. I am in favor of having to have a certain income to own these dogs. And yes 9-10 times income has alot to do with who is owning these dogs. So with thast said i will take the ban i am probably going to get for this. I know im not the only one thinking it.
Goodbye

Agreed with whats been said. Its the people not the dog..."pseudo-gangster status/home invasion protection" is on point. And of course, adopt....
