thanks !

good ? ill see what i can find, im sure someone will answer b4 then tho. i would like to know as well

keeping plants in your aquarium is good for the gravel, because it helps draw SOME of the organic waste produced by the fish and uneaten food (this fertilizes the plants, and helps remove some of the toxins from the water). plants are also good because they keep the oxygen levels higher.

Hope this helps and - just in case you were thinking it - do not add plant fertilizer to your tank or gravel.

Do not listen to this advice. Planted tanks at higher light levels often need quite high levels of fertilizers to keep nutrient levels high enough to maintain healthy growth of plants.

If you want to fertilize the gravel, there are two options. 1) Buy a plant substrate that will contain many nutrients, but not the macronutrients. 2) Use root tabs to fertilize specific plants.

my bad. isn't plant fertilizer full of nitrogen?

wyldfya hit it right on the head. i would buy some root tabs that stimulate the growth of new roots and feeds the plants from the root. also alot of ppl use Florish Excel on this forum and dont have to use CO2 tanks to feed the plants. there is a section on this forum that deals with planted tanks-you may want to look there and see A) exactly what type of lighting you are using to see what kind of plants you can use (high light, med, or low light plants B) what kind of plants are compatible with your fish C)the needs of those plants, and do you meet them? i have used some medium-low light plants like java moss, java fern, some species of anubius and jungle val with my african cichlids in the past with success-but plants tend to clog up my canister so i just quit using them.

It can be but usually higher quality ferts will not contain much if any nitrate and are simply the nutrient you are looking for such as phosphate or potassium. A lot of ferts though are made to be low in nitrates since its a concern for any tank with animals. Not to mention it can make algae go crazy.

thanks for the replys, and today i asked a guy att a lfs and he was showing me some liquid options, but currently i have tables for the roots i bought and since i had it my plnats seem to be doing alot better..

thanks guys.>!
