Has anyone tried them ? I was thinking about getting some plants on the peices of drift wood I have on my tank. They are perfect for plants to root on, also maybe some big java ferns in the sand.
Would help me with water quality, give the tank a more natural look. Also I could take out the ugly bubbles because the plants would take the carbon dioxide and turn it into oxygen in the water.
Ive seen the pothos ontop of the tank, but I have glass tops and I dont want to get the light defuser ontop of my tank. The leds are directional enough.

Anyways who thinks its a good idea ? I think im going to get some green elastic bands and strap a few plants in there!

quick tank shot, I would put plants on both peices of wood, take out the rocks and bubbles on the left have a big plant in the sand instead, same with the fake plant another big real plant.

Lucky bamboo, java, sword, duckweed etc. My piranhas nip plants regardless, that's why I have pothos, plus they consume much more then your average aquarium plant.

Really they nip at the plants?! I wouldnt of expected that... I will definitly check all thos out, not alot of duck weed but a bit, alot of java on the wood and some swords for the sand im thinking... Also Im going to buy some much nicer drift wood for the tank, alot more skinny and amazonian looking. Twisted and root like... not just big logs.

im modeling my tank after thies

The first one is really what im going strongly off of

Even the schools of minnows for them to much on when they wish lol

I can see your frustration. Lol, I think Im going to give it a shot its a bunch of small Ps so Im sure they wont be gettign THAT big of chunks off. Also my tank is alot bigger (no offence) with more in it not just one plant.

None taken, i tried doing a moderately planted red belly tank a while back and they just kept destroying it. My advice for planting a piranha tank is use deep substrate and let the roots really root down. It can be done, its just not worth it for my fish lol.

The random single plants in my piranha tanks are usually left overs from other tanks. I dont wanna throw them away, but i dont have a use for them now. The swords in bubbas tank were from me tearing down another planted tank.

I had a planted piranha tank with 5 rbp with a good selection of crypts hygrophilla ferns etc.

Fish used to be rarely visible as they were uncomfortable with the high lighting needed for plants.

Eventually though most of the plants went for a toss and hygrophilla corymbosa took off like a weed. really liked the overgrown jungle look but realised much later that the cause was a piece of uneaten food which caused too much nitrates and coupled with strong lighting made the plant go zooom!.

I striped it down as I couldnt stand not seeing my rbp .

finally made biotope tank with driftwood and sparse vegetation.

Black water and dim lighting makes the fish bolder.

My 2 cents!
