Looks like a Rhombeus due to the coloration. Is he especially territorial with your other fish? Or is he a moderate eater (unlike RBs), because these are signs of Rhombeus.

Very territorial. Displays serious ambush aggression (hides out for hours until a fish gets close enough for the kill) very hearty eater too.

Here's an example of him hiding out, waiting under foliage for anything to come close and chomp! Usually goes for the colorful guppies but in the past couple weeks 3 of my larger SAE'S have disappeared! Obviously he's the only fish capable of such blood shed in the tank!

Pretty nice having a never ending food supply, he really keeps the guppy population in check. This tank would be absolutely riddled with them if it weren't for my killer! The fry and other fish are fed NLS to ensure health and obviously the piranha chomps them down everyday as well!

He also enjoys ghost shrimp which have also spawned, here's a little one and one of those colorful guppies, which are seemingly beautiful!
never thought I'd say that!

-A small update on my Strio-

All is well and growth is still prevalent just slow!

He/she is about 4.5" and showing great colors and activity!

Loves to hide out in the swords and pick off guppies and shrimp, mind you I never add fish, this is a complete eco system with breeding species of crustaceans, inverts & fish but it also gets a supply of NLS! Just change a small bit of h20 weekly and add a little nitrate/phosphate/potassium/c02 and trace minerals View attachment 1007740

thanks! Its definitely taken awhile to get this far but I just wanted to have a high tech planted piranha tank that would remain lush and not be destroyed by the fish!
