Secondly but not lastly is I have been suggested to use a play sand from Home Depot. I have never really ventured into this before. Is their much I really need to know? Besides the basics of a substrate change....

Is their different kinds (not colors)? or only one varient of play sand?

Anyhow this will work for me now...I will most likely have many more questions in upcomming future....

Thanks and appreciate and said info on subject...

AK

i use the home depot play sand in my stingray tank.
as far as i know, there's only 1 "color" of it, just that mixed sand kind.
it contains no silicone.
rinsing is a must i find. when my rays burrowed or sifted through it, it clouded up my tank badly. the filter was always a black-brown mess of mud from all of the sand dust. it took ages to get it even reasonably acceptable. lots of vacuuming the sand.
otherwise, i've been recommended it by many, and have been told it's completely safe for bottom feeders.

Thanks guys...Haveing some issues with cloudy water right now....Have filled the 270 gal up twice now and drained it.....Have a couple mag 350's on their to combat this crap....Hence the lack of pics promised........Anyhow once this gets all cleared up-I will get the pics...It looks really good..

I have a black and white mix right now that actually looks pretty darn good IMHO...

good luck with it guess i got luck no cloudy problems,i also rinsed until the water ran clean. getting ready to set up another tank(let you know if i have the same results)

I found the playsand from home depot to be quite nice.
But you can save an hour or so of cloudy water by putting the whole bag in a pillow case and running water through it to clear all the silt.
My water is crystal clear with 100lbs of playsand and 100lbs of small pea gravel

well-
managed another two water changes yesterday.....Can almost clearly see through it now...Gonna make another couple water changes and then see how it looks and go from there......If things are still nice and clear today...I'll atleast take some crappy pics of the sand combo finally......

Cheers
Ak

I think I am going to try the Quickrete Playsand...I need to get 100 lbs

I will try the pillow case to clean it too.
