:duh: gotta love the gravediggers

They are finally realizing that many humans are hybrids. There are at least two possibly three species of early man that did indeed interbreed. It only made the human race stronger. It is difficult to imagine the world without hybridization.....just because something has a different species name does not mean it is not derived from a different animals if you go back far enough. Mutation can only be responsible for some creatures on this planet.

I understand the frustration you had raising fish for a year that you thought were a certain species, only to find out they were not. I hear you saying you now question buying fish because you don't want to have that happen again. The issue here is, nobody is going to stop breeding what they want or crossing what they want - you have to become responisble for what you buy and from who you buy. Look at the most crossed up cichlid I know of (there may be others) - red devils and midas. It's very hard finding these two in true form at lcoal stores, it's hard to trust who to buy from, it's almost always a gamble. However, knowing this is an issue would mean I would look for a specific breeder or collector I could trust and I would buy from him if that was a concern. I wouldn't waste time arguing to everyone else about it though, even if you were able to get everyone to cull them off today, years from now some kid will accidentally breed a hybrid again and think it's cool and then it will start again anyhow.

Although that did put me over the top it was not what this thread is about. I can't walk into a fish store anymore without questioning what I'm buying, unless I know for a fact that the fish was wild caught there are no guarenties. And when cichlids are young many within the same complex will have very simalar traits. The only sure way to tell is as they age certain traits will become more defined, confirming the species

Again with this thread? Can a mod lock this one to keep it from being resurrected... It's like a zombie, you think the topic is dead, and then it bumps up again.

HAHAHA!

lmfao, this made my day XD hmmm, think about it... without hybrids, our hobby would have died decades ago, but thanks to the blood parrot (despite its horrific traits, cant help but like them because they make beautiful flowerhorn when crossed) our hobby was resurrected and as a result, we are able to conserve hundreds of species because of the interest in the hobby. before the BP, the only real interesting fish were goldfish, koi, guppies, and a few select cichlids. without BP's, we wouldnt have Flowerhorn, or many of the other pure species that we keep nowadays because nobody would have cared enough to find them in the wild and even (some) risk their lives to collect the ancestors of the fish swimming happily in your tank now.

just thought i would put in my own 2 cents. oh, and thanks to a single flowerhorn that i brought in to my school on my sophomore year, South Plantation High School now has a thriving aquaculture program. (it's been 4 + years since then) now they have over 5000 gallons of aquariums and fish, breeding anything from african cichlids and domestic strains of livebearers, to endangered species of goodieds that NO LONGER EXIST IN THE WILD. haha, i dare you to try to get wild collected Ameca splendens :naughty:

AND got several dozen young adults into the hobby. What can you say to that!?

I sincerely appreciate you making this post, it gave me something to do for the past half hour

THANKS TO HYBRIDS, WE HAVE TODAY'S THRIVING AQUARIUM HOBBY!

Just a thought....if people are so against hybrid fish what about mules? You never hear about people saying that mules should not be bred, and yet they are hybrids.
I know, hypocritical people... Most things we eat have been hybridized or genetically modified in some way or form to produce superior livestock. Hybrid literally means superior breed, I think haha. Corn, cows, and other plants and animals meant for consumption or use have been hybridized to make the yield much larger. In the agriculture world if you hybridize a cow with, say a bison, If you crossed it back to cow enough officially in the agriculture world it would be considered a pure cow. Why isn't there a bunch of protesters at farms?

im just currious as to what justified him to choose fh's as the species of choice for it to be ok with hybridization? or was it his hand reaching out and touching mans hand painted on the roof in that little chappel by Michelangelo so many years ago?? am i missing something?!
