PLEASE HELP FLOWERHORN PROBLEM

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you need to stop getting caught up on the fact that some fish are doing fine while others are not. Different species can have much higher tolerances compared to others. So while one fish my look fine you need to focus on the FH that is not doing ok.

there has been studies that show how some fish cannot tolerate 5ppm nitrates and others can tolerate over 100ppm nitrates.

so again, just keep doing water changes. you seem to be reducing the nitrates which is good. a few more water changes and you should be at a decent spot. its going to take a while for the FH to fully recover. Sometimes it can be over a month.

Don't rush it. keep up with every I an others have mentioned and keep a close eye on him, you should see improvements. and by the sounds of it he is already moving around which he wasn't before.

What are the clear things I have to look at? When fish is dying how they act ? Since day 1 never lost any ! Seems never say never. I did change 60% of water today as well, seems Im changing it wveryday for 5 days now. Added cold water to lower temp a lil bit it stucked on 85 now is 75 , algaefix made my day. Water not green anymore, im adding water now, he seems ok, friend of mine said if he was dying they act different.

Your tank is still very crowded and it looks like some of your fish haven't even finished growing. Are you using test strips or liquid test because most people believe that liquid test are way more accurate than the strips

I have both. Strips and drops. I added green terror recently he is the new guy. But flowerhorn is 16-18 inches now, oscar is same. All parametres are good now. I got 10ppm nitrate, 7 ph, 0 ammonia, air stones, filtration is good, and temp 75 now, water is crystal clear, I use Algaefix from Api. Not greenish. I only wanted my flowerhorn tooZ but its my family who added all other fishes. Main concern is my FH he is special breed , not like store sells, you already noticed that, super red color and very huge hump.
I paid a lot for him in 2014

Seems like you got the nitrate problem in check. Unfortunately while doing so we tend to aggravate our fish. Now you can test your water everyday for nitrate and see how often you actually need to do water changes. Still going to be fairly often, you really should lower your stock level like keep the FH and 2 others. I highly recommend removing the parachromis. Watch your feeding and get in a routine and as your fish return to good health and get the routine they will come around

Why you suggest removing tiger cichlid? I always wanted to get rid of her she always picks up like a rat on my FH , plecos and other snake looking fish bottom feeder is ok. Ill leave FH , Red parrot , and Green terror. Will get rid of oscar, pike, tiger cichlid , and gar

Because they tend to become tank killers. What you remove is your choice but that sounds perfectly reasonable. I might switch the pike and parrot around but that's just me and hating parrots in general.

I love parrots) they are nice. And can't bite someone. They just picking) oscar is very messy. I want my FH only in my tank
