PLEASE HELP!!! Geos dying...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use prime, at the regular dose.

Could your p.h. have crashed that is what it looks like to me. But it is strange that the other fish are not affected :( wish i could help

Sorry to hear there are no signs of improvement.
From the pics you posted im almost sure that it is bacterial or fungal. Something is rotting away the fins and slime coat. Seems like a mighty strong bacteria/fungus if melafix didnt cure it and they are still detereorating. Id suggest stepping up the bacterial meds. Try harsher API product. Maybe the E.M Erythromycin powder, or T.C. Tetracycline. And Furan-2 are all good products. Im leaning towards fungal considering Mela didnt help any, but it physically looks bacterial. I wish your tank luck mate.

yeah, thats what happen to my tank and i lost 2 fish. my front all had that, but i did a 50% WC everday and they made it. what i heard from my friend was that my ammonia went up and killed the cycled. The thing that casued it, i did not know. But all i did was 50% WC everyday and add salt and stress coat.

hope your fish are doing well.. good luck

Thanks. I just did another 25% wc and added more salt. The wc's seem to be slowing it down, but not stopping it. I don't know, but it kind of screams bacterial. I wish I could get a positive id on what it is though. I don't want to medicate again for nothing. Where's Lupin when you need him.

But what I don't get, is why is it not affecting any other fish?

Catfish sevs and cons are more resilient to disease than geos. Im sure they will be affected soon, if the problems not fixed. I know i said you dont want to dose for no reason, But when others start dieing and symptoms get worse than its time to try something new. Parameters are always the first check.
Get your Cats, sevs and cons in another tank with salt, if you can, to prevent spreading infection. Its not a disease just Geos get.
Could be fungal with bacterial as a secondary infection. Could explain why Mela didnt help. If none of the professionals chime in i really would suggest 1 of the API meds I recomended in the previous post. API products are effective yet mild.
Hope i could help you out. Watching your little buddies suffer and not knowing what do is beyond frustrating, i know. Be smart and have faith the others will pull through.

I would like to use something that doesn't affect my bb. Do you know if any of those api products affect bb? Which covers the broader spectrum of infections?

Best info i could find for ya:

(Furan 2 in capsules is no longer available)

*10 powder packets for 10 gallons each
* Effective against a wide variety of gram-positive and gram negative bacterial diseases of aquarium fish, including; Furunculosis (Aeromonas), Dropsy, Gill Disease, Fin and Tail Rot, Hemorrhagic Septicemia, Eye Cloud, Black Molly Disease.
CONTAINS 10 Powder Packets (Treats 100 Gallons)
*Can be combined with Kanaplex to make an even more wide spectrum treatment, especially for difficult cases of Columnaris or Aeromonas. This duplicates the popular Aquatronics product “Spectrogram” that is no longer available.
*Can be combined with Kanaplex & Metronidazole for parasitic, fungal, & bacterial infections; this duplicates the popular Aquatronics product “Paragon 2” that is no longer available.
Most good Bacterial meds will damage BB a bit, but that is the least of you worries now. Fish are fine w/o BB if you have test stripes.
