ok i will but it might be awhile before i get the glass.

also what thickness should i get? (the same thickness as it is now or thicker?)

I will have to step out on this one,not sure what glass is used, could be normal glass??, but,i would go with the same thickness though...see if you can find someone local to see if they can help you...and always use aquarium safe silicone

ok, thanks.

if it was just normal glass that i would use do you have any idea on how much it would cost? ( dimensions of damaged piece 4ft by 12")

thanks.

has anyone ever tried to melt glass back together? how hot would it have to be

hayden;1075612; said:
over 800 degrees probably closer to 1000. i know you can melt glass in a fire (who is a pyro??) but that was just a light bulb and a candle stick.

Glass softens at 900f you could get it to fuse at like 1000 to 1200... commercial glasses are manufactured by fusing of sand, limestone, and soda at temperatures around 2552 °F to 2732 °F..

Remember, you need to cool your glass from 900 down to 100 at a rate no faster than 100 degrees per hour. thes is called annealing. Glass which has not been annealed properly will crack or even shatter when subjected to even a relatively small temperature change or shock.

if you cool it to 600 degrees then do a rapid cool (with cool forced air), then you get tempered glass (if you get the coolong rate right)

If you are not a gaffer, you shouldnt attempt to melt your aquarium to fix it, you will only stress the glass & cause problems.
