Hey Hawaii, large fish like Arrows usually suffer from gill curl from being housed in narrow tanks. Those are forever moving, non stop fish. All that turning back and forth is what causes gill curl. I dont know if the temp is gonna help any but I hope it works out for ya.

Is there any science behind this statement?

To OP, get heaters and perform more water changes.. Good luck!

Suggest that you wait for a while, with the other issues you had let him settle and regain some strength. Jars are very hardy and the gill curl does not seem to affect them that much, more a matter of asthetics. If and when you do this do your research, I think there is a thread on this somewhere ? or start a thread for advice from someone with experience in this.

interesting reading. My jardini has developed a bit of gill curl, i didn't have any idea why, but i guess after reading on here its to do with temp fluctuations? this puzzles me because the tank is indoors, has two heaters in it, one as a back up, both are working and i have not noticed any temp fluctuations. any other causes of gill curl? the fish is healthy, eating etc everything is fine. mike

Oxygen deprivation, bad water quality, temperature shock.

Temperature shock during water change is one the more common ones.
One of the reasons you NEVER direct tap fill and condition the water unless you live in tropical region, and you know your tap water is ok.
For arowanas I would always pre treat and heat the change water as close to tank temperature to avoid temperature shock complications (aka gill curl).

yah it could have been anything... most likey the temp shock...

well i did a couple more 18% water changes over course of a few days but i didnt add salt or medicines to this batch of water(thinking he was healed< what an idiot)...
he was eating the load!!! when i was adding salt in water and plugged in new heater... salt level probably dropped a little due to the recent water changes, he's back to the sluggish bottom dweller he was 2 weeks ago :( do you think it's the lack of pimafix?

tank is still at 80 no ammonia doubt any races of nitrite of nitrate..
he hasn't eaten for 3 days and doesnt seem to be enticed.

should i add salt again?
start back up with the pimafix?
or should i get stronger medication and put him in smaller tank( the medication at stores wouldnt be able to treat main tank, to big)? i have a 29 gal quarantine. just dont want to stress him.

last question... do jardini's turn really gold when they are about to die?:/

No ammonia doesn't mean no nitrite or nitrate. YOU NEED TO TEST for these chemicals to be 100%. Just like clear water doesn't mean clean water.
Increase your aeration / oxygenation of the water !
Stop with the salt, because you don't seem to know what you are doing.
What sort of filtration and what and how much bio media are you using ?
Keep up with the 20% water changes every other day. Pre treat the water before you add.
Are you using Seachem Prime to condition the water ? If you are not, I highly reccomend using this product.
You can add the vitamin if you like, at the correct dosage !
