300 gallon is not big enough for your current stock to mature in. Add a large sump into the equation, then eat anything that outgrows the tank.

Okay so after spending my whole day in the market in search for canisters for a 300 gallon tank I have 2 3 options
1- Sun Sun Hw 3000 Canister filter with upto 3000liters per hour flow rate.
2- Fluval fx6 400g
3- Penn Plax cascade 1500

Also im going to build a sump filter in my current 42g which will be connected to one of the canisters.

Proven wrong sorry.
So as I said above no canister filter will be good enough. You need a sump. And probably a fluidized filter of some sort. Again silvers get around 4' a 3' wide tank isnt enough imo. Probably a 3-4 time wekkly wc schedule too....call it every other day imo.

I'm going to rehome a few fishes from them Firstly the gar and the silver aro and the common pleco which I missed in the background. Then I plan to purchase a chili red aro and a pair of Oscars.

As you see the op is very what I wrote. so now can you suggest some tank dimensions and filtrations system that can be used ??
Well a good rule of thumb is 4× fish in length and 2× in width. So 4' silver arowana when full grown that a 16'×8' tank. Depth doesn't matter as much but with that size fish I'd say 4'. Thats 1900 gallons.
Your arowana alone will out grow that 300g. Not to mention the rays. The filters you mentioned are way under powered for the bio load you are talking about. If you want to run a canister and a sump then fine but 42g isnt big enough to house enough media or mech filtration. Id say 100g sump minimum. With a large wet dry tower. As a bare bones sump that might handle what you are talking about. But that'd still need every other day wc.

Hes a little ocd on how it looks but his info is spot on for rays.
So I'd design the filter with the rays in mind and then it should be good for everyone else.
Just saw silver is gone....what about rays? They staying?

Most canister filters can handle about half of what they are advertised to handle if set up optimally. So an fx6 can really handle about 180- 200g. If you are dead set on using canisters id say 2 fx6 minimum. Run a sump more water volume and more space for media. Sumps arent scary its easy water goes out overflow from tank into sump through mech filtration (filter sock) into bio into pump back to tank. Easy. Just get a 300 that has an overflow.

Lots of respected members giving you sound advice already... my input would not be any different. Perhaps spend a few moments on this site's 'setup and filtration' section and do more research.

Op sorry for assuming it was a troll thread.

At the end of the day you can slap some canisters on there but trust me the maintenance will become a chore. But if i had to it would be 2 or 3 ehiem 2262's. Fx just arent going to cut it. Its not only the gph that you have to consider but also the surface area of the media to house enough bb to contend with your bioload.

Get yourself a used tank some pumps and fill it with media. Gotta go sump trust us
