Which pleco wafers are you using?

Hikari wafers first 3 main ingredients are junk=Fish meal, wheat flour, wheat germ meal.

HBH disengrates into mush within 5 minutes however it's ingredient listing is impressive.

Looking for a pleco wafer you can buy in bulk that will retain its form and have an ingrediant listing that is actually made for plecos , vegatable matter in the first 3 ingredients . Not some re-formed , re-packaged , dyed food like Hikari...

What are you using and why?

I think a bunch of us like the hikari pellets as i do.Pellets should just be one of the foods you feed plecos.I have tried other pellets but the fish just do not like them. Then there is the buying bulk issue and Hikari has the best deal and biggest size of 2.2lb bags.Having over 200 plecos i have looked for better deals but so far i have not found a wafer better then Hikari.

I use the hikari as well. My pleco has at least doubled in size since I got him, and whenever I drop one in and the lights go out, he's on it til it's gone.

Him and my yellow labs also like cucumber and lettuce.

Thanks for the feedback . My feeling is Hikari is like McDonalds, kids love eating it, however how good is it actually for you?

read the post on the Earthworm/ mussel sinking sticks , anyone know where you can buy in the states?

I like the Omega One Veggie Rounds. I have tried at least 3 other kinds, including Hikari, and the fish like them all. I mix it up a bit to give them some variety, but usually the veggie rounds are the first thing I reach for.

Forgot to mention, the ingredients in the Omega One Veggie Rounds look pretty good.

Ingredients: Whole Kelp, Spirulina, Whole Salmon, Black COd, Whole Herring, Seafood Mix(Including Krill, Shrimp and Octopus). Wheat Flour, Wheat Gluten, Lecithin, Astaxanthin, L-ascorbyl-2-poyphosphate (Vitamin C), Natural and Artificial Colors, Choline Chloride, Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin, Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin, Vitamin A Acetate, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin D3, Ethoxyquin, Natural Mixed Tocopherals and Rosemary Extract.

Also, you can get them in bulk.
Sizes Available: 2oz, 4.2oz, 8.1oz, 3lb, 15lb.

"Almost natural tropical fish foods" is good stuff, but expensive. Their web site was hacked though and is down for a while so I can't get the ingredients list for you.

Much cheaper and well liked by my fish are these made by Angel's plus.

Ingredients: Spirulina Algae, Alfalfa Meal, Pea Powder, Soy Flour, Wheat Flour, Fish Meal, Shrimp Meal, Brown Rice Flour, Wheat Starch, Fish Oil, Wheat Germ, Carrot Powder, Spinach Powder, Kelp Meal, Brewers Yeast, Glycerin, Soybean Oil, Natural Mixed Tocopherols, Vitamins and minerals.

There is actually another type of walfer out there that is better.. but it creates a huge mess...

Aquarian Sinking Algae... they have a rich grassy smell to them.. much more so than Hikari... however.. the pop from these walfer float.. so sometimes i see huge pleco pop drifting in the tank..

But otherwise.. they are just as good as hikari and is much cheaper..
